(SR5) One Alpha Lenses to arrive along the A99 (more coming later)

I can now confirm that two new Alpha Lenses will be announced along the A99. These are the new 300mm f/2.8 G SSM II and the already announced new 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6 zooms. More lenses like the 50mm prime and 70-200m zooms will be unveiled the next winter (2012-2013).
P.S.: Sonystore US marked the 300mm lens as “No Longer Available”. Some lenses are still in Stock at Amazon (Click here).

9 months ago |If the 55-300mm has already been announced, why does it need to be announced again? Sorry, I’m confused what you mean here. Surely you mean they are announcing ONE lens with the A99 (300mm f2.8) and others are coming later.

9 months ago |Will the price of the new 300mm be comparable to the old one? The old lens is a fine lens! It is super sharp and delivers some stunning images. Is this update just to speed up the focusing maybe? and to add the new nano coatings?

9 months ago |the new 300 2.8 is probably weatherproof.

9 months ago |Oh yeah. I had forgotten about that one.

9 months ago |Come on, this is crap. Are you really telling us that Sony will introduce only a mark II lens upgrade at Photokina along with a breakthrough FF camera? (As Lotus Eater has pointed out, the 55-300 has already been announced). This is worse BS than the FF NEX rumour.
I would suggest that the availability might be January, but they will announce the 50mm (if it’s coming) plus whatever else they’ve developed. This is Photokina after all.

9 months ago |Andrea, are you sure there will be no introductions in November?

9 months ago |November-December could be…I have to ask for the exact month (but maybe even Sony has no exact launch date yet).

9 months ago |One thing is for sure. The 300mm f2.8 must be replaced with the new a99 if it is indeed to be a sports shooting camera. I hope the a99 is a beast!!! Any chance they might add OS to the new 300mm to make it more NEX friendly? Maybe a dumb question but the thought did cross my mind.

9 months ago |Nothing great to see here. They’re replacing lenses they discontinued, and they’ll have a higher price than the previous Gen. Sony is doing nothing to increase their lens range or options. Really pushing me to look at Canon/Nikon so that I actually have options.

9 months ago |too bad they’re missing the chance to show the world in a big event the 50mm (if it’s for real that they were making the zeiss).

9 months ago |Two steps forward, two steps back. I am guessing that an impetus to change the high end lenses seems to be that Sony might have negotiated some lens micro coating technology in their sensor deal with Nikon.
In the meantime, I’m enjoying my 70-200 2.8G. The colour, resolution and dof and bokeh work well – here’s a pic I took yesterday.

9 months ago |Sony continues to disappoint. One FF body a year after NIkon/Canon. And it’s a SLT with tons of video features. With a lens update. They just keeping producing new bodies. They have so many holes, but professional and consumer oriented lenses.
It’s so stupid.
I don’t think they really understand what photographers want. I have been considering a switch for over a year, but after photokina I’ll switch to Nikon/Fuji. I am tired of waiting for a good 28, 35, and 50s. The backbone of a lens family. Sony continues to release few lenses, and often crappy ones (e mount). Too bad Andreas doesn’t run the other rumor sites, he does a great job with this one, but Sony isn’t giving him much to work with. Too bad, my a-mount Zeiss glass is so nice. I do wonder if Sony keep investing in e-mount, if a mount with just slowly whither.

9 months ago |I’m sorry, this is crazy!
Sony keeps focusing on Lenses for the less than one percent of it’s customers.
The product line needs small fast primes and not the long ones.
I own the Minolta 300/f2.8 and seldom thank it out, but i’m way past ready to buy a high quality fast 50!
Now set for sometime this next winter?
Announced next winter and shipping next spring?

9 months ago |I agree with everyone over here that sony needs to open its catalog and make more lenses in different ranges… maybe the solution would be to reintroduce some minolta classics. I for one ain’t gonna have the money to buy the zeiss 24-70 along with the a99 so I would love to have the chance to have something like the minolta 24-85 with all the new coatings an motor for much less than the zeiss cost… other interesting lenses would be a new version of the “secret handshake” or the “beercan”, all excellent ff lenses but a little outdated… a super wide angle as an alternative to the zeiss would be sweet to…

9 months ago |Andrea, are there any news about 35mm/f1.4za ?

9 months ago |i think there is room for a G series 24-70mm 2.8 with smooth bokeh effect. Zeiss equivalent does not give nice blur.
