A small revolution might just have happened: Canon says they will only make new EF lenses if there is demand for it…from now it’s RF lenses for mirrorless only!

Canon is now following the steps of Sony and “virtually” gave up on their EF lens development. Canon manager Richard Shepherd old at Digitalcameraworld:

“To date we’ve launched ten critically acclaimed RF lenses, and as it’s a new system we plan to continue this, launching more RF lenses while still fully supporting the EF lens system. And of course, should the market demand it, we are ready to create new EF lenses. But for now, our focus is on RF.”

So, de facto Canon is now using all their resources to develop RF lenses only. Don’t think they will ever go back on EF lens development…just like Sony dind’t make any A-mount lens (and camera) for a very long time now.

What I find odd is to read a statement like this the days after the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III announcement. A nice way to kill some sales :)
