Sony releases a new firmware udpate for the 4K E-mount FS7 camcorder.

Sony announced that it will release a new firmware update for the FS7 in March. What’s new in firmware Version 2.0:

1. Expands audio recording to four channels audio at 24-bit, 48 KHz.
2. Supports DCI compliant 4096 x 2160 XAVC-Intra-frame recording up to 60 fps.
3. Adds HD Apple ProRes codecs to enable progressive and interlaced HQ and 422 recording.
4. Eliminates “Magenta Cast” in WB preset mode.
5. Renames “Color Temp <P>” menu parameter to “Preset White”
6. Eliminates need to re-enable “Steady Shot” after power ON/OFF cycle.
7. Retains “Paint Menu” settings after power OFF/ON cycle.

Well there is one more great thing with the Sony A7s. With the super high ISO performance it delivers we can finally spot the UFO’s flying around at night! Check out that video: youtube.com/watch?v=Iaksh6P8AMU. It has been shot by CityHunter who writes:

My friend Terrence shot this footage testing his brand new Sony A7S, with a [shoplink 33299 ebay]50mm Nikon lens[/shoplink]. Shot at 70,000 ISO, it made 9:30pm look like twilight. First is the normal speed, then a slowed version of the footage.

Personal note: I have a scientific mindset and I have an extremely hard time to believe in UFO’s. Usually those things can be easily explained with a bit of research and rational thinking. But I am seriously impressed by the terrific A7s performance. I “Believe” in the A7s :)

Tamron: “We do not plan to make lenses for the Sony A7 cameras”.

The Spanish site DSLRmagazine asked Tamron if they plan to make lenses for the Sony A7 system. But the official answer was: “Currently we have no intention to cover this line of business, although we have a very good relationship with that particular brand.“

He also confirmed the new 15-30mm Sp lens can resolve the new 50 megapixel FF sensors. This fits with a rumor I got back many months ago. That source gave me the lens specs as first and also told me Sony would make a close to 50MP FF camera too. Question now is only WHEN that camera will be announced to fight back the Canon 5ds.
