(UPDATE) Sigma 150-600mm A-mount lens was never announced (says BH)

BHphoto marked the 150-600mm Contemporary A-mount lens as discontinued. UPDATE: I now contacted the store and that’s the answer I got:

A Sigma 150-600 for Sony A was never announced, it was skud by accident.

That’s a bit strange because a few days ag the Sigma press release clearly said there is an A-mount version (Source: Sigma). I hope this is just a misunderstanding.

Sony Stand Report by Dpreview: New Zeiss 35mm FE has Direct Drive SSM!

Dpreview shared some interetsing info they got from the Sony booth at CP+:

1) Lenses: Still no word on price or availability, but at least Sony now has working models of the lenses, not just the paperweights we saw at CES. We played around with a number of their lenses and, indeed, they appear to be impressive.

2) Stabilization: We got to play around with the unit, moving the sensor up, down, left, right, and rotating it. We found, however, that the sensor did not tilt at all in this assembly, so we asked how the system corrects for pitch and yaw. We were told by the engineers that measurements are continuously recorded and used to algorithmically correct for pitch and yaw.

3) Focus on 35mm Zeiss: The in-body stabilization (IBIS) technology developed by Sony is used not only for IBIS, but also for autofocus motors in the DXC-RX10 and the new FE mount 35mm F1.4 ZA lens being introduced. Direct Drive SSM is based off of technology used for in-body image stabilization. A piezoelectric element that translates an applied electrical field into mechanical movement is used for precise linear positioning of the focus group.

I am really looking forward to see how fast the focus with the new Zeiss FE 35mm f/1.4 is!

Sony is the only company without a product announcement at CP+. Your thoughts?

Bildschirmfoto 2015-02-13 um 09.48.38
The Zeiss 35mm FE cut in half at CP+ Sony booth (Source: Matthew Allard).

Well, Sony decided to literally skip the CP+ show and is as far as I know the only major photo company not having announced a new camera or lens. But also the other companies kept a low profile (Read Engadget articles about that). Canon’s 5ds will ship in June only and all other manufacturers did show many prototypes and much less “real” production cameras.

Just like it happened with the A7II launch Sony seems to prefer to launch major stuff off the big show to get more publicity. And here is the question to our SAR readers:

Should it feature advanced AI features like we see on so many phones?
