Finally we have the proof for a statement I make from the day one of the Nikon D800 announcement. Chipworks analyzed the sensor and it has indeed been made by Sony!  The sensor name is “IMX094AQP” :)

Most of you were right guys! The added “S” letter within the new “Exmor RS” sensor brand stays for “Stacked”. The full description of the new technology is available here at Sony.net. I guess these kind of sensors will find their use in cellulars and compact cameras and not so on larger sensor cameras.
