Pushing Myanmar movie by James Holman (shot on the A7sII)

James Holman explored one of the last places on earth where you cans till flee form the mass tourism:

It’s the the third film I’ve produced over the last 8 years from the former military dictatorship. Our first, Altered Focus: Burma was shot in 2009 (in the PD150 days!) and was featured on both BBC and CNN World News as well as the Washington Post. Our second, Youth of Yangon, was made in 2013 and closely documented, in Burmese language, the growing skateboard community having discovered it in the first film.
Pushing Myanmar was a multi-facetted project, it started when a German non-profit organisation, Make Life Skate Life got in touch about the possibility of building a skatepark there. After a successful crowd-funding campaign in late 2015 raising $20k USD we were able to build the country’s first international standard skatepark. This allowed us to follow what was always a dream following the first two films and make a third and final chapter that documents both the history of skateboarding in the country but also the immense positive change it has had on the community.
The film was shot almost entirely on the Sony A7s2 with only a handful of non-Sony shots being follow-cam on GoPro 4.”

Sony confirms they “will never leave the APS-C market”. Wants to be “number 2” on the interchangeable camera market.

Imaging Resource had a Q&A session with Sony and here are some of the key info:

APS-C:
Sony’s top executive for interchangeable-lens camera development said emphatically that Sony will never leave the APS-C market, and that we can expect continued development of that part of their product line going forward.

A6500:
Sony says that products like the A6500 are a critical part of their overall strategy, and that even pros are using them as second bodies.

Market share:
Sony has to grow by growing the overall market, not just by poaching market share from other players. Sony’s goal is to use their ability to innovate to open up new possibilities for photographers.

Number two on the market:
Sony is planning to become number two on the interchangeable market by surpassing Nikon.

I hope this means we are going to see some APS-C E-mount glass soon (hugely needed!). And it will be a hard struggle for Sony to now take over the position number one from Canon. Will it happen any time soon?

Lydith 30mm f/3.5 E-mount on Indiegogo

You can get the Lydith 30mm f/3.5 E-mount lens on Indiegogo. Here is the press text:

Meyer Optik Goerlitz now on Indiegogo
After a successful Kickstarter campaign for its Lydith 30mm art lens, Meyer Optik is now offering the lens to the Indiegogo community. The Lydith is one of the extraordinary lenses from famous German lens maker Meyer Optik.
The lens allows the photographer to capture the magic of the moment in an absolutely unique way as sharpness, contrast and bokeh combine perfectly together to allow for an outstanding composition of light and color. The Indiegogo project page shows many beautiful examples of the lens’ abilities.
Designed in the late 1950s and introduced to the market in 1964, the modern version of the Lydith will be updated with high-perfomance lens coatings and a short minimum focusing distance of 8 inches (16 cm). Like all of Meyer Optik’s lenses, the Lydith will be a fully manual lens, 100 percent handmade in Germany; the company will use Schott and Ohara glass only.
Through the Indiegogo campaign, the supporters have the opportunity to get the lens at a more than 40% discount of the expected retail price. The campaign will run until Sept. 6.
