Canon EOS 5D Mark IV got announced. First Canon vs Sony reviewers thoughts…

The most popular Full Frame camera series of the world just got a new entry: Canon announced their EOS 5D Mark IV and full specs and pricing can be found at BHphoto, Adorama and Amazon. On paper this camera is a “conservative” evolution of the predecessor. Still I believe Canon will sell tons of that camera in DSLR countries like USA. Probably 4-5 times more than a Sony A7 camera. That’s why I think Sony should target that kind of customer by offering a Sony A7 camera that can match or even beat the autofocus system as I think that’s one of the main strong point of the Canon.

Dpreview posted a first impression review and says:

We expect significant, though not class-leading, improvements in dynamic range that narrow the gap in shadow recoverability between Canon and Sony sensors.

Newsshooter writes:

Sony managed to pull off a much better video performance with their a7R II which has an even higher still pixel count. I just wish Canon had managed to do the same here.

Philip Bloom is not very “excited” with the new Canon :)

It’s coming: Canada Sony PRO Service!

Sony Ambassador Ross D. Hamamura (www.RDHphoto.net) reports the following:

Sony USA is working on a way to run Canada Sony PRO Service for Canada. When the Details are final , an announcement will be done. So, for now … Sony working PRO’S IN Canada  should have Hope!
And this is a good sign for other working PROS around the world shooting Sony.

That’s great new for our Canadian readers. If you want to read more about the PRO support service check out the US website (Click here).

Thanks Ross!

Fred: “We discovered something very important while testing this lens.
With the A7RII, setting EFCS (Electronic First Curtain Shutter) to “On” will affect bokeh rendering when shooting the 50/1.4 ZA wide-open combined with high shutters speeds (> 1/1000s). This is actually true for all large aperture lenses (f/1.4).
Look at the out of focus rendition difference with EFCS set to “On’ and “Off” (at f/1.4):

Of course this won’t be an issue with lenses without EFCS like the original A7R.

Xabier:Let me send you a little video I´ve made with the incredible Sony A7SII. I´ve tested the SLOG 2 & 3 capabilities, as well as it´s 100 fps technology. https://vimeo.com/178734761
The downsides I´ve seen with the A7SII are its poor CDAF and the poor results of the SLOG3 when shooting the skyes, due to it´s 8 bit codec.
Apart from that, it´s an awesome camera: The Lowlight sensitivity is amazing, as well as the superb Dinamic Range and the On-sensor stabilizing system.
