(Sony CES show press event) Sony talks big about Alpha…but does not announce any new camera and lens yet.

On the CES stage Sony talked for almost 10minutes about the A7 series cameras but did NOT announce any new FE lens or camera. It was somehow expected to NOT get any new Alpha camera at CES but a bit strange they talked a lot about it without to announce anything :/

Here is the list of products (handycams, actioncams and so on) announced by Sony: sony.net/SonyInfo/News/Press/201601/16-001E/index.html

P.S.: A99 and A6000 successor now going to come around Cp+ in February. And hopefully those new toys will steal the spotlight from the Nikon D5 announced today.

Competition news: Nikon announces the D5 with ISO 3,280,000 !

D5

The High ISO race restarted today: Nikon is going after the Sony A7sII with the new Nikon D5. The new D5 goes up to ISO 3,280,000 (yes Milion!).

It’s also interesting to note that Nikon’s presentation was also focused on “down playing” the mirrorless competition. Just watch for yourself from around minute eight:

Now more than ever we need Sony to make a real pro new A-mount A99 successor. And if I may add…also a future A9 E-mount camera!  A camera that is really reliable on all aspects (autofocus reliability, operation reliability and so on).

The Sony press conference will start at 5pm Las Vegas time (that’s 2:00 tonight in Berlin). You can follow the video live stream here on SonyAlphaRumors!

Reminder: Sony live stream today at 5pm PST!

SonyCES

Today at 5pm PST (Las Vegas) time Sony will live stream their CES product announcement. Like I told you yesterday actioncameras, VR, Playstation and other non-Alpha stuff are going to be announced. There is a very small chance Sony will show the A99 successor, the A6100 or the new FE lens roadmap. Keep in mind the “pure” photo event of CP+ is taking place next month already. And as usual with Sony some of the photographic stuff may be announced “off-show”.

Still, we can hope Sony will surprises us tonight! You can follow the video live stream directly here on SAR at:
5pm Las Vegas time
8pm New York time
2:00 Berlin time (January 6 in Europe)

Read here what’s the most sold Amazon Holiday photo stuff (no DSLR nor Mirrorless).

A6000

You wonder what’s the most sold photo stuff during the 2015 Holiday season? Well look here (via Corporate IR):

Most sold: Fujifilm INSTAX Mini Instant Film Twin Pack – White
Second most sold: GoPro HERO4 SILVER
Third most sold: AmazonBasics Head Strap Camera Mount for GoPro

As you see Instant Film and ActionCameras is what sells most. System Cameras are just a small niche in the market. See full ranking here: amzn.to/1O1rTOD

Looking at the Amazon camera rankings the most sold mirrorless camera seems to have been the Sony A6000. The most sold Sony lens was the 50mm f/1.8.

Phase One announce world’s first medium format camera with 100 Megapixel Sony sensor!

phaseone

Phase One just announced the world’s first 100+ Megapixel medium format camera! And the sensor is made by Sony! The camera costs $48,999 and those are the key features described by Phase One (website here):

Joint sensor development and optimization
Phase One and Sony have been development partners for years, the 50MP sensor being the first milestone of our cooperation, now found in the XF IQ3 50MP. Creating the full frame sibling to the 50MP CMOS system has been a top priority of Phase One for years. We’re proud to now deliver a solution that achieves the image quality requirements Phase One customers expect, all while providing the performance advantages inherent to 100MP CMOS sensor technology. Phase One sensor experts have been working hard to optimize the complete use of the 100MP sensor for the worlds most demanding photographers.

100MP Full Frame Medium Format CMOS Perfection
We’ve always strived to offer our customers the ultimate photographic flexibility. We were the first to offer Full Frame Medium Format CCD systems and now we’re proud to be the first to offer a Full Frame Medium Format CMOS solution. The Phase One XF 100MP Camera System offers the same great advantages of full frame usability with the added benefits of CMOS. No lens crop factors, no focus screen masks, just uncompromised image quality from edge to edge.

16 bit analogue feel
For quite some time Digital Photography has surpassed analogue films in terms of resolution, ISO and Dynamic Range, but often at the sacrifice of one feature for another. Manufactures and engineers continue to strive towards reproducing the textures and tonal feel inherent to analogue photography while maintaining all possible benefits of digital photography. At Phase One this pursuit has always been central to what defines ultimate image quality. With the introduction of 16-bit Color Depth, coupled with CMOS ISO flexibility, the XF 100MP delivers a natural texture and tonal feel never before seen in digital camera system. For photographers striving for perfection, 16-bit Color is an essential addition to the versatility and resolution of the XF 100MP Camera System.

15 stops of dynamic range
The Phase One XF 100MP Camera System delivers an unparalleled 15 stops of dynamic range, retaining unmatched detail in both highlights and shadows. This is the highest performing system in terms of dynamic range that the Medium Format world has to offer. The Phase One XF 100MP Camera System is engineered to provide the detail and unmatched quality, demanded by the worlds leading photographers.

Clean ISO from 50 – 12800
By combining new sensor technology and years of experience in noise suppression through Capture One software, the Phase One XF 100MP ISO range delivers unparalleled creative freedom and performance in all shooting conditions. With a previously unthinkable base ISO of 50, the Phase One XF 100MP delivers the flexibility of longer exposures and unrestricted use of fast lenses, all while providing the cleanest possible results. Expanding on CMOS technology, the XF 100MP can offer higher ISO versatility and, with Capture One software, retain excellent noise suppression and file render.
