Sony a9 III: BUFFER Testing by Matt Granger

It’s clear from his test that the lossless compressed RAW option is the way to go if you want to clear the buffer as fast as it gets. While compress RAW will give you the possibility to shoot more frames but buffer clearing takes much longer.

Funny test: This is how long it takes to write the 120 frames of the Sony A9III on an old Sandisk 8GB 30MB/s SD card

Our reader Edde Burgess got his new Sony A9III and used his old and slow Sandisk 8GB 30MB/s SD card to see how long i would take to clear the buffer:

I jumped on the front porch and shot a bird at the feeder on Hi+ 248 photos that took 6 minutes 15 seconds to buffer… 2 minutes 24 seconds to load Into Lightroom. I just need 700 of these cards.

Curiosity: Someone just posted the first images shot on the upcoming Viltrox 135mm f/1.8 FE LAB lens

Viltrox will release three new autotofocus E-mount lenses in the next couple of months:

  • AF135mm F1.8 LAB
  • AF56mm F1.7
  • AF40mm F2.5

The images below are shot with the new 135mm FE lens which will be also their first “LAB” branded lens. This lens should be able to match the optical quality of the Sony 135mm GM lens but for less than half of the price. Sadly the images are only small size so you can’t really say anything about the IQ yet :(
