Sony RX100 VI Review by Dpreview

Chris&Jordan:

Sony recently announced the RX100 VI, the newest addition to its compact camera line. With six iterations of the RX100 series now in circulation, how does this new model stand out from the rest? Chris and Jordan take the camera for a spin and tell us what they think about the new, longer lens, the updated viewfinder and more. They even manage to fit in some well earned hammock time in the process.

Tony & Chelsea Northrup:

We review the Sony RX100 Mk 6 (http://sdp.io/rx1006). It’s a purse-sized camera that creates better images and video than your smartphone can thanks to a 24-200mm equivalent lens. However, it has some drawbacks… the battery life is poor, there’s no mic or headphone jack, no intervalometer, and video is limited to 5 minutes of 4k/30p. Still, it’s the best option for those looking for a smaller camera (when you don’t want to bring your DSLR) or for smartphone shooters who want better action and telephoto shots.

And here is the test from Precision Camera

First image samples shot with the Sigma 105mm f/1.4 Bokeh Monster on the Sony A9

The most exicting new Sigma lens for Sony is the 105mm f/1.4 Bokeh Monster (preorder at BHphoto, FocusCamera, Amazon and Adorama). The E-mount version is rumored to ship in late Summer only but Takuya Ikeda shared some image samples shot with the Canon version using the MC-11 adapter on the Sony A9:

I am seriously considering to buy this one…and you?

A7III weather sealing test bi Jim Kasson

Jim Kasson made an interesting A7III battery door weather sealing test. As we know from the previous Imaging Resource testing the battery compartment seems to be the weak spot on the new generation A7rIII and A7III cameras. Jim conclusion:

It appears that the flow comes from the hinge area and that the flow is mostly over the top of the hinge, which is why it takes a fair amount of water to get the floodgates to open. The RRS plate makes an effort to seal the top of the hinge, but it’s not working well. Looking at the camera itself, there is no soft material that mates with the top of the hinge, so this flooding over the top is likely to occur at least as badly with cameras that have no plate attached.

This explains why some users have reported no problems when setting the camera down on wet surfaces, and others have had flooding — it depends on how deep the water is. It is possible, and even likely, that there will be leakage with small amounts of water given enough time. I only gave the camera a minute or so to deal with the small amount of water before I increased the depth.

I hope the Sony will fix this design issue in time for the new A7sIII.

The size comparison between the three Sigma-Samyang-Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 FE lenses

The three lenses do have about the same length. So which one would you get? I think in terms of price-quality balance the Sigma wins. The Zeiss on the other hand gives you a nice aperture ring and probably a tiny better AF performance. If you are on budget you save the Samyang just got a discount making it by far the cheapest of the the three.
