New A99 tests. A99 on par with all Nikon FF cameras.

Techradar posted the A99 hands-on review. And the most interesting part is the comparison with the Nikon D600, Nikon D800 and Canon 5DmarkII. You can see it here. Let’s look at the RAW files:
1) Signal to noise ratio: The A99 is on par with the Nikon D600 while the Canon has an edge from ISO 3.200 towards.
2) Dynamic range. The A99 isn’t the best at ISO 50-100 but form 200 ISO towards it’s on top with the D700 and 5DmarkII.
Overall it looks like the A99 and D600 are damn close in their performance. Certainly the A99 holds up well with the best in this class. Now le’t see if the RX1 can beat them all! Can’t wait to see these results on techaradar soon.

And here are some new A99 reviews: Frank Doorhof posted the seocnd part of his ongoing A99 review. Bokeh test on vimeo. Initial A99 review at Chromasia: “As I guess you’ve already worked out, I’m seriously impressed with the SLT-A99. The image quality is superb, it has a great range of features, and no real negatives, at least none that have any major impact on my style/type of photography. As such I have no problem recommending this camera.” And some image samples can be seen here.

Frank Doorhof: “Sony is very serious about becoming number 1”

Sony A99 from Nigel Barker on Vimeo.

Fashion photographers Nigel Baker and Frank Doorhof are using the A99 for their work. On top you can watch Nigel’s latest video. And Frank Doorhof is so excited about the A99 and writes: “Sony will be a serious player in this market, of course I cannot predict the future but when you listen to what’s gonna happen with the alpha series and when you see the quality of the A99 I think Sony is very serious about becoming number 1… now that will probably not happen over night for the simple reason that Canon and Nikon are so well known, but….. I think over time things will chance.

Sounds promising!

VG900 and M mount lens test!

The NEX-VG900 camera and the lenses. Image courtesy David.

The day Sony announced the first Full Frame E-mount camera I had one question in my mind. How good will the sensor be for the use of [shoplink 15491 ebay]M-mount lenses[/shoplink]? SAR reader David tested some of these lenses on his brand new [shoplink 14178]Sony NEX-VG900[/shoplink]. It’s too early to draw any conclusion but for the first time we can see many image samples:
Here is the list of tested lenses:
1) Leica APO-Summicron 75mm (image here, lens on [shoplink 15486 ebay]eBay here[/shoplink]).
2) Leica Summilux 35mm (image here, lens on [shoplink 15487 ebay]eBay here[/shoplink]).
3) Zeiss Biogon 28mm (image here, lens on [shoplink 15488 ebay]eBay here[/shoplink]).
4) Leica Super Elmar 21mm (image here, lens on [shoplink 15489 ebay]eBay here[/shoplink]).
5) Voiglaender Heliar 15mm (image here, lens on [shoplink 15490 ebay]eBay here[/shoplink]).

Experts on SAR may tell me what they think when viewing these images. And I hope someone can do an appropriate review soon. Would like to know if there are issues or flaws using these lenses with adapters on my future NEX-9….if Sony will ever make it for me :)

Thanks David!!! Follow his Flickr stream.

There is also a test at MFlenses with the Nokton 35mmf /1.2 lens.
