(SR3) Sigma 50mm 1.4 f/1.4 APS-C E-mount has 9 blades, weights less than 300g and is priced around $600.

End of 2017 Sigma did show this roadmap image teasing a new fast APS-C E-mount lens. A sources just shared the possible specs of this lens:

“Sigma 50/1.4 APS-C E-mount: 9 blades, less than 300g, around $600. Most probably around NAB 2018.”

If this rumor gets confirmed it will be definitely good news for all A5xxx-A6xxx camera owners.

(SR1) Crazy fun rumors: Sony As7III with 15 Megapixel organic sensor

sony-a7III

Sometimes I receive crazy rumors they are worth to be posted for the sake of clickbait, discussion and fun. Before you read it a warning: This is not a rumor coming from trusted sources and it also “smells” like this is untrue. But it happens 1 time out of 10 that these crazy rumors get true so let’s have some fun today:

Sony A7sIII
organic sensor with 15.4 mpx and an iso range (32 to 1.638.400) to destroy the competition. the organic sensor was set to be part of the fourth gen of the A7 line.
the A7r3 out perform d850 and 5d m4.
Same thing with the A7 iii vs 6d2.
however with the original A7s iii sony has struggled to outperform or at least to match the panasonics that’s why they decided to bring some specs from the A7s 4 and the sensor is one of those.

Would certainly love the A7sIIi having a completely new kiond of sensor. But I suspect that source only had a nice dream :)

Now what we know for sure about the A7sIII:
Sony has yet not registered any new camera code in Asia. It could mean the A7sIII might NOT be announced soon. Expect same A7rIII body improvements and 4k60fps video recording.

Notes on those kind of (im-)possible rumors:

  • Fake rumors sent by so claimed sources that are known to create fake rumors are NOT included. What you see here are messages I got from unknown sources where I have no track of any “rumor history”
  • It’s by readers request that I create this sum up of low ranked rumors. But please remind all that these are not rumors from trusted sources and don’t count me accountable on those kind of very low ranked rumors :)
  • The last year a couple of those “impossible” rumors were right (RX1rII and A6300 specs). So miracles sometimes can happen :)

Sony a7S III Predictions by Jason Vong

I know many SAR readers are awaiting to get their hands on the new Sony A7sIII. But first the bad news upfront: Sony has yet NOT registered any new camera code in Asia. Which means it’s likely there is no imminent camera announcement. And with the recent Sony A7III announcement Sony managers might prefer to wait with the A7sIII launch until the A7III buzz is over.

Still let’s hope that Sony will surprises us and release the Sony A7sIII at the NAB show in April. It’s easy to guess that the A7sIII camera will have the same A9A7rIIIA7III body improvements and possibly 4K 60p.

Jason Vong summed up his A7sIII predictions in this video:

Sony engineer confesses he would “completely re-design the menu based on a new touchscreen interface”

A SAR reader had the chance to talk with a Sony engineer at the Cp+ show:

1) Sony realizes their menu system needs to be radically overhauled and maybe even re-designed from scratch.
2) The personal preference of that one Sony engineer “would be for a complete re-design based on a new touchscreen interface.” Something like the Hasselblad X1D has.

I am 100% convinced the radical approach would be the way to go. And they should make the camera wasy to connect to social networks and backup services too. But I have a hard time to believe Sony will really do this.

Chatter from CP+ show: The Sony 400mm GM autofocus will be “way faster” than the Canon and Nikon lenses

Some of the folks present at the Cp+ show shared two insights on the new Sony 400mm f/2.8 FE GM lens

1) Autofocus:
The Sony will focus “way faster” than the Canon 400mm and Nikon 400m lens. The reason is the new hardware tech used by the lens (new actuators and servo).

2) Lighter:
The new 400mm GM lens will be also lighter than the Canon/Nikon competition

No word on the possible pricing yet but the lens will be announced this summer and be available in September according to BHphoto.

(SR4) Sony will soon announce the new 24mm f/1.4 FE

Image on top shows the new Sigma 24mm FE lens. Let’s hope the Sony will be more compact than this one :)

The following rumor has been shared from a source who was spot on three times the past year. All he wrote me today is this:

I heard sony will announce 24/1.4 soon.
I guess this will be labeled as a GM lens. Don’t know how soon the “soon” means. But I should get some more info the upcoming weeks.

Sigma CEO confirms they will make new FE lenses designed for Sony E-mount only!

The French magazine Focus Numerique interviewed Sigma CEO Mr. Kazuto Yamaki. To read the french article you have to pay a fee (which I did). And I have some good news to report:

1) In future Sigma will develop new lenses designed exclusively for Sony FE cameras: “We will develop native optics for Sony FE if they are different from what we can already offer in our “reflex” range.
2) Sigma plans to offer more of their current DSLR lenses with native E-mount. Also future new DSLR lenses will be immediately available for E-mount too.
3) The current new FE lenses are completely new from a software point of view. To write software for prime lenses is easier. But Sigma plans to release native E-mount zoom too (SAR note: expect an FE version of lenses like the 24-70mm ART for Canon).
4) About the current new FE primes: Sigma says that even if they had redeveloped these fixed focal lengths for the Sony FE mount, they would have arrived more or less on the same kind of optical design and especially the same type of weight and size. The only exception is for wide-angle lenses which could be much more compact.

To sum up:

  • All current and future DSLR lenses will be made available as native E-mount option (this includes zooms)
  • Some of their future lenses will be designed purely for Sony FE cameras (particularly wide angle lenses)

The newly announced ART FE prime lenses are all listed at BHphoto (Click here). There is no info about shipment and price. But it’s rumored the price will be the same as the Canon version:

Sigma 14mm F1.8 DG HSM | Art price at [shopcountry 67834].
Sigma 20mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art price at [shopcountry 67835].
Sigma 24mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art price at [shopcountry 67836].
Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art price at [shopcountry 67837].
Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art price at [shopcountry 67838].
Sigma 70mm F2.8DG MACRO | Art (CP+ 2018 exhibit with no price yet)
Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art price at [shopcountry 67839].
Sigma 105mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art (CP+ 2018 exhibit with no price yet)
Sigma 135mm F1.8 DG HSM | Art price at [shopcountry 67840].

Here is the big question:

Which lens are you considering to buy?
