One “SR1 source” had it all spot on!

Back in July I posted one of my rare SR1 ranked rumors roundup (read the article here). Those are rumors I get from completely anonymous sources with no previous track of rumor sharing. Well it’s interesting to see that three of the four rumors were very accurate (with some minor errors)

Particularly “Source 2” was spot on predicting the right models

Summer usually is the time for announcements for Sony
This year
no new RX100 will be announced
No new APS-C Camera will be announced
a new consumer compact / travel zoom is down the pipeline and one new A7 series
also there will be a new action cam sporting ultra slowmo

The travel zoom is the RX10m4, the A7 camera is the new A7rIII and the ultra slowmo camera is the RX0. I hope that source is reading this post and will give us the pleasure to tell us what might be coming as next in 2018! And if possible I would be happy if he could use a “nickname” to make it possible for me to recognize him again :)

To SAR readers:
It’s ten days now I am working with all my sources to re-organize my rumor work. Two former trusted sources whom shared correct rumors in the past got mislead with the A7III and A7sIII they got. They were genuine in their intentions but wrong in the info they conveyed to me. This all lead me to ignore all A7rIII rumors I was getting. Such big mistakes should no more happen in the future as I worked out new strategies. The good news is that the A7III (Q1 launch, 24MP, same A9 af) and A7sIII (same A9 pdaf) specs shared on SAR still seem to be correct.
Expect me to post new rumors soon from sources who also shared the correct 400mm and 24-105mm FE rumors and the unposted A7rIII rumors. All I can tease for now is that 2018 will be a more “camera focused” year than 2017 with many new models introduced.

UPDATE with message to a source: Nothing to apologize for :)

(SR2) Sony working on a new 200-600mm E-mount “beast” lens?

At the begin of July I got this mail from a new source. I did post this rumor as SR1 only as I had nothing to back up his info. But now we know that two of the lenses he mentioned were announced with the new A7rIII. I am not sure if this was just a “lucky” guess or if he really knows stuff.

But if he really is right than we should expect Sony to announce quite a curious lens beast: A new 200-600mm lens! I wonder if such a lens would make sense in the E-mount line up anyway.

The only comparable lens on market is the Sigma or Tamron 150-600mm lens. Below you can see the Tamron next to the Sony 100-400mm lens (via CameraSize).

This would be definitely a niche lens. Probably wildlife shooters and sport photographers could be interested in this?

One more thing: That very same 200-600mm source said within the same email that the A7III launch was delayed til early 2018.

Note: The screenshot shows a German text because that’s how my mail is set up.
