(SR4) First info on the A7rIII says it has around 60+ Megapixels. Will not be released for 3-4 months

Name for the new Sony High Megapixel camera is still unclear yet: A9r or A7rIII?

Back on March 8 we did post an A9 and A9r (or A7rIII) rumor from a reliable source. The A9 info he shared proved to be correct. This means his info about the A9r or A7rII shared BEFORE the A9 launch is correct too:

  • The camera under development seems to have 2 models. One is high-resolution model around 60-70MP, and the other is super high-performance AF, super high speed continuous shooting, and super high ISO sensitivity model. (SAR note: One is obviously the new A9 and one is the new A7rIII or A9r).
  • The first model to be released will be the low rez and super high-performance AF camera

Recently another trusted source confirmed he got similar info:

  1. The new A7rIII (or A9r) will have more Megapixels than the A7rII (probably around 60 MP)
  2. Will not be released soon (not within 3-4 months).

The only reason why I am yet not ready to rank this rumor SR5 is that because Sony might make some last-minute changes. I hope to get some more A9r or A7rIII info soon. In the meantime join us here:
Sony A7rIII group and Sony A7rIII page (I will change the group name to “A9r” if the camera will be named A9r)

Note: I updated this post with a correction on the release time and an upgrade from SR3 to SR4 (as I got one more info from a third source in the meantime).

Competition rumor: Fuji will buy Nikon shares to save them from troubles?

It’s no secret that Nikon is suffering big losses in the camera market. And unlike so many other companies Nikon depends very much from the camera business. Now here come the unexpected rumor posted by Fujirumors:

Japanese government is directly involved in finding a company that can help Nikon. Hatenablog.com says here that Fujifilm is one of the companies that could possibly “help” Nikon.

Previously there were some wild speculations that Sony could be involved too. But the Hatena report does not specifically mention Sony. Sony already once bought a stake into Olympus to help out their financial mess. I guess that the main goal of a Fuji-Nikon partnership would be the same as the one of the Sony-Olympus collaboration: Cost reduction…cost reductiond and again cost reduction.

UPDATE: The Story got written by Sentaku (June issue magazine) which is a highly reputable source in Japan. Already back in April Sentaku they wrote:

Companies from Taiwan, South Korea and China reportedly are considering acquiring Nikon. Experts say if its financial situation further deteriorates

Still no news about that Sony China camera launch teaser…

Ten days ago Sony China launched that teaser for a new camera launch. But we still got no news about the camera specs. By the way, this is a legit teaser. They made the same a year ago for the A6300 launch (teaser here).

There was some very wild speculation on the forum that this might be a new A5100 successor rather than an RX camera. But really, I have no info yet on that.

Sony will add S-log on the A9 and also improve touchscreen functions

Sony support at the BHphoto Q&A page confirmed the Sony A9 will get S-Log. We should get this soon with the next firmware update.

And CameraJabber had a chat with Sony manager Aoki and added that new information:

Sony would listen to market advice and assess the need for additional touch-control along with ‘other function’ enhancements.

Again CameraJabber:

I strongly suspect (hope) that Sony might also take the opportunity to add Picture Profiles and S-Log mode to make the camera more appealing to videographers.

(SR5) The Samyang 35mm f/2.8 FE lens will be announced in mid June

Back in April Samyang did display that new 35mm f/2.8 autofocus FE lens at the Korean Photography Expo. It has the same specs and similar size of the [shoplink 57619]Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 FE lens[/shoplink]. But it will be cheaper (no exact info yet). The autofocus performance is said to be similar to the Samyang 50mm FE.

Well a trusted source told us the lens will be announced within 2-3 weeks!

Still I wonder why Samyang did choose to make that lens. Would have loved to get something “new”. Maybe a 24mm or 28mm pancake?
