On January 5th Sony will livestream their CES product announcement. You can follow it live here on SAR. And what can we expect to get?
Our sources confirmed there will be a new Action Camera and new Handycameras. They also confirmed Sony is ready to launch a new A99 successor but it’s unconfirmed if that’s coming at CES or a month later at CP+.
But today I got the full AS50 action camera specs. So here they are:
-Same as usually Zeiss lens
-XAVC-S 50mbps codec
-FullHd recording 60p
-New menu with icons (much easier and faster to navigiate)
-Waterproof up to 60m with included case
-Batery compartement is similar to the one in az1, but as50 works with same batery as as20
-Bluetooth (to power on camera with the remote)
-Electronic zoom
-There will be new remote rm-lvr3 but will not be sold with as50 and will be relised later in 2016
Back in August Sony registered a new 24-70mm GM lens in Russia. I have no clue what “GM” stands for. But an anonymous source claims to knwo what it is:
Sony will release a new lens called SEL2470GMa cheaper version 24-70mm with smaller size, it will be sony’s future kit lens, possibly electronic zoom
By the way, he also added this:
also, the A9 body, which is higher than the A7rII does exist, but I’m not sure if sony want to release it or not
Still, this is a new source and rarely those kind of rumors become true. But I would certainly like to get a compact zoom for the A7 cameras. And you?
I got this from a source:
“There was a email send by Sony Taiwan to some of their employees. It said that A68 will not be introduced in Taiwan due to decreasing demands of mid-level DSLR from the market.”
So after Australia and New Zealand also Taiwan will likely no more sell any A-mount stuff.
I guess Soy’s startegy now is to sell their new A-mount cameras only in “DSLR-friendly” markets.
Two more sources confirmed the next Sony High End Camera is the Sony A99 successor. It is yet not 100% confirmed if it will be announced at CES or at CP+. I have no info and specs about the A99 successor. So it’s not clear if it’s a High Megapixel camera or an A-mount camera without pellicle mirror or whatever. I do hope to get some info about the camera before the announcement comes. Let’s hope Sony will add some exciting features on the camera!
Reminder: Sony will have a press event on January 5th at the CES in Las Vegas. The US market is still very DSLR-centric and it certainly makes sense to announce a new A-mount High End Camera on that event.

It’s not an Alpha news but I know quite some SAR readers are a fan of action cameras. So I thought I will share you this one. A trusted source sent me the first picture of a new Sony Action Camera that will be announced on January 5th. The same source has yet not heard any specs of the camera.
I hope to get some pics of the possible new Sony A99 successor too…
We are talking about non Alpha stuff so let me add some more info: There will be new Xperia phones from Sony. But the future of photography may be this: Samsung interchangeable lens smartphones (on Mirrorlessrumors.com).
