Back in early December a trusted source shared us the image and correct specs of the new AS50 action camera that then was launched at CES (article here). So let’s hope he is correct too on the rumor he just shared me today! He said Sony is about to announce at least three new cameras:

1. The a6100 is coming soon
2. There might be a successor to the [shoplink 44064 ebay]hx400[/shoplink] coming as well.
3. he also mentioned a new mirrorless camera in the lineup…”no specifics about this one. yes…a completely new model….take this with a grain of salt, because sony is really keeping us in the dark, but it might be true.“

I don’t know what that third camera could be (maybe A5xxx, A7000 or A7rIII, A99II (sort of mirrorless or not?) or maybe something completely new?).

I also do expect the new FE lens roadmap and prototypes to be shows at or shortly after the Cp+ show. There will be also a new Zeiss Batis 18mm lens.

Techart created quite a buzz by announcing the development of a M-mount to Sony E-mount autofocus adapter! And you can see it at work on the video below.

But there is more to come! The developer of the M-mount autofocus adapter said he plans to create three more of those kind of adapters:

I previously reported that at last the A6100 will be in Stock in March. Now two more sources confirmed the info. One of them who correctly shared (A68 data and specs) wrote:

“A6100 – it should arrive in stores in EU at the end of March“

Additionally:

“AS200 and X1000 Actioncam replacements are already have been given official internal code names, they’re planed to be launched before summer sales pick. They are rumours that they will feature balanced optical steady shot know from consumer cameras ;-)“

In 2015 Sony delayed the A6100 launch twice because of lack of competition. As a proof of that see the Sony Wikileaks leaked Sony roadmap for Spring 2015:

I guess with the launch of the new X-PRo2 and PEN-F time has come to release the “updated” A6100.

A SAR readers sent me the screenshot of a A99 successor conversation with a Sony store manager. While of course Sony cannot unveil anything about future products I found it nice they added the note:

We are confident the new camera will be well worth the wait.

I like that :)

Zeiss boss told me the Batis 18mm will be the next prime in their batis range due for release in April 2016.

Not sure 18mm is a very “popular” and “highly requested” focal length by FE owners. So let’s assume the lens will be f/2.8:

I got specs from an anonymous sources. But unlike other anonymous sources this one could be true as a known source confirmed at least two of the mentioned specs are correct (name and sensor). The trusted source will soon give me more info. But in the meantime this is the yet unconfirmed(!) A6100 spec list:

• Name: A6100
• 36mp BSI sensor,
• silent electronic shutter mode,
• IBIS
• 4K recording
• Touchscreen

If those would be really the final A6100 specs….

Yesterday Phase One launched the new XF 100MP back (article here). The sensor is made by Sony and first SAR readers worked on the 300+(!) megapixel TIFF files (article here). The image quality you get is impressive. This is now the world’s best digital system camera you can buy!
So the question arises if Sony will ever make a medium format RX camera with such a sensor. The advantages for Sony and us would be:

– Sony would explore a new “virgin” territory (first fixed lens digital medium format)
– Sony could make the most compact digital medium format camera yet. Something we can really use for reportage and travel photography. The current medium format cameras are more suited for landscape use.
– Sony could sell the camera at a less crazy sub $10,000 price. It would be a completely different camera than the Phase One and certainly not compete against it (not interchangeable, not primarily made for studio and landscape photography)
