Let’s discuss those “allegedly” leaked Sony A7rV specs

My take on the spec list. Warning: Sorry for my hair after the cold shower ;)

Two weeks ago I got this Sony A7rV spec list form a unknown sources. I did decide not o post it because I wanted to wait and gather some info from trusted sources. But now the very same source shared the spec list to other websites and forums and I had to share my view on this for you.

There are three reasons why it’s unlikely this is the accurate spec list.

  1. Unknown source that suddenly claims to know a long list of A7r5 specs
  2. The spec list is so detailed, we never got such kind of leak before
  3. Camera will be announced in autumn, so unlikely someone has the spec list yet

The spec list might be close to the real deal because many updates sound reasonable and because Sony is known to make incremental updates. So for example I bet the 8k30p rumor is correct. And so might eb the resolution of the Viewfinder LCD screen and so forth because the A7rV is likely to incorporate the same A1, A7sIII and A7iV updates.

But the big discussion I want to have with you know is this one:

If the spec list is accurate...would you consider this to be a worthy successor?

I hope trusted sources will read this post and give me a quick take on the spec list. To learn what’s correct and what’s not. I will give you some updates soon therefore, to not miss any rumors, I kindly invite you all to follow the Discord channel, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and my new Youtube channel.

These A7rV specs are likely not correct

I got this a week ago and I didn’t post it because it was from a new source. Now the same source is spreading the specs to forums and other rumor websites. So I am going to post it too with a WARNING that these are not from reliable source. Also because it’s strange that this source doesn’t mention a couple of things I know FOR SURE ;)

This is the message I got:

Hi Andrea.
Here’s what I know about the specs and selling points of the α7RV.
This all-rounder is priced higher than the α7SIII.
The camera emphasizes resolution in both still and video, and it demonstrates this to the fullest.

The new Sigma 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN E-mount lens will be announced on June 1

The same source that leaked the lens specs says the new Sigma 16-28mm FE will be announced on June 1 at 21 Tokyo time.

Sony will announce three new APS-C lenses: 11mm f/1.8, 15mm f/1.4 and 10-20mm f/4.0

Image on top shows the Sony E 16-55mm F2.8 (image on top) which was the last APS-C lens announced by Sony back on Aug 28, 2019!

These are the three APS-C lenses that Sony will announce soon:

  • 11mm f/1.8 (17mm in Full Frame equivalent terms)
  • 15mm f/1.4 (22mm in Full Frame equivalent terms)
  • 10-20mm f/4.0 (15-30mm in Full Frame equivalent terms)

I also have been told the 10-20mm lens is a very compact and lightweight travel-friendly wide angle zoom.

It’s quite a big commitment from Sony to launch fast ultra wide and wide primes. It’s a pity they will not announce a new APS-C camera too but this has to do with the current worldwide semiconductor shortage. From what I heard the ZV kind of E-mount camera launch has been delayed to late 2022.

Here are many detailed thoughts on the new lenses:

I will share more lens info and probably also some A7rV soon!
