First a correction: The next Sigma lens will be a 200mm f/2.0 and not f/1.8 as previously rumored.

Now two trusted sources have confirmed that we will get a 200mm f/2.0 SPORT FE and L-mount lens before the summer. Delivery will probably start in July. And both also told me that a second fast lens will be announced shortly thereafter (and it’s not the 35mm f/12. II). More about this lens soon on SAR.

A new Sony camera registration was spotted in China yesterday. We now have a total of two Sony cameras to be announced within a few months:

1. WW934774 (registered April 21) manufactured in China. This is highly likely to be a new FX or Cine camera.
2. WW773396 (registered December 4) manufactured in Japan. This is highly likely the A7V. Usually Sony does announce a camera 3-4 months after registration. But from what I heard the A7V launch got delayed also because the constant Sony A1II production issues.

About the new Cine camera: One source told me this might be a direct competitor of the Canon C400 and have a new Italian name similar to “Burano” and “Venice”. Hope to get more solid info about that soon.

Here is the first exclusive leaked image of  the new Sony 50-150mm f/2.0 GM lens!

Specs:

• Weight: 1340g
• Length: 200mm (same length and very similar body of the Sony 70-200mm GM II
• 50-150 2.0 GM is slightly bigger than the Tamron 35-150mm f/2.0-2.8
• It’s white
• shipment start: beginning of June
• Price: 4400 Euro
• Announcement probably on April 23?

So this lens will be a bit heavier, bigger and a lot more expensive than the Tamron 35-150mm f/2.0 (which, by the way, is on super-discount at BHphoto, Amazon, Adorama). Of course the Sony is expected to have superior image quality, autofocus performance and the f/2.0 constant aperture will be useful in video and for extreme bokeh fanatics ;) 

I’m still not sure about the announcement date, but it will probably be the 23rd of April. This is the only new product we should get, but keep in mind that Sony announced two new cameras in December/January. So it could be that we’ll see a new FX or a new A7V camera announced in May/June!

According to three trusted sources, Sony will soon announce a new 50-150mm f/2.0 GM lens. Yes, folks, I didn’t make a typo… this really is a constant aperture zoom of f/2.0! There has never been a lens like this in the history of photography, so I’m very excited to hear your comments on this new lens! This will be Sony’s second f/2.0 Full Frame zoom after the 28-70mm f/2.0 GM.
The sources have not given an exact date for the announcement, except that it will be ‘very soon’. So I suspect the announcement will be in a few weeks. I’ve been told that the lens is a smidge heavier and larger than the Tamron 35-150mm f/2.0 (which, by the way, is on super-discount at BHphoto, Amazon, Adorama).
The Tamron is a very popular seller, and the Sony lens goes one step further in terms of light gathering ability. A constant aperture is a particular advantage when shooting video. At the telephoto end, the depth of field on the 150mm f/2.0 lens is much shallower (1.9cm) than the 150mm f/2.8 (2.7cm), which should provide an even more pronounced bokeh effect.
But the price difference is rumored to be quite big. The Tamron sells for $1,599 while the new Sony is likely going to sell for a price close to $4,000!

One more camera rumor: While we are supposed to get ‘only’ this lens and not another lens or a new camera with the next announcement, one of the sources shared another interesting tidbit: He has seen this lens being tested on a new Sony camera that will be announced at a later event. He wouldn’t tell me which camera it was. I’m hoping it’s the Sony A7V, which I know is ready, but Sony has postponed the launch for now.

One of my sources believes that Sigma might announce a new Sigma 200mm f/2.0 Full Frame lens for Sony E and Leica L cameras! NOTE: Previosuly it was rumored to be a f/1.8 but I got confirmation it’s a f/2.0.I still need more sources to confirm or deny this rumor before I can bring it to 99% certainty. Why do I think this lens would be an EPIC addition?

I will give you three reasons:

1. Stunning Bokeh Let’s compare a portrait taken with a 200mm f/2.0 and a 200mm f/2.8 lens (such as the Sigma 70-200). At the widest aperture, the 200mm f/2.0 would achieve a depth of field of 8cm at a subject distance of 5m. With the Sigma zoom, you would achieve a depth of field of 10 cm. The shallower the depth of field, the more pronounced the bokeh.
2. Great for landscapes On my alpine tours, I do use often the 200mm focal length of my Tamron 28-200mm. But the Tamron has f/5.6, while the Sigma is more than three f-stops faster! This results in visibly cleaner images.
3. Made for sports and wildlife photographers Sports photographers would enjoy an advantage of 1 f-stop, especially when shooting indoors. Wildlife photographers (although limited by the shorter telephoto focal length) would get cleaner images and more flexibility in low light conditions.

My speculation is that this lens might be price around $2,500 which would be $3500 less than the only similar lens you can buy at BHphoto today.

Wrap up:
Like I said, I still need full confirmation on this rumor. But I really hope that this rumor about the Sigma 200mm f/2.0 lens will come true. It would give us a new, unique lens that we don’t yet have in our line-up. Let me know what you think about this lens by taking part in this poll:

Recently I reported to you that Sony has decided to postpone the launch of the Sony A7V, even though my sources told me that this camera is ready and in production. Sony executives also said that they are behind on production of the Sony A1II because demand is much higher than expected. Now a Russian photography channel shared some more info that yet has to be verified:

At CP+ behind the close doors Sony stated that they could show A7V by the end of 2025 and release it in 2026 in ideal conditions. The ideal conditions means a supply chains that are undergoing serious corrections because most photo mfrs (i assume he means not native Chinese but Japanese) are leaving China due to very high tariffs that are being placed on parts made in China. Every mfr is moving factories to places like Vietnam or Thailand or South Korea, there are serious delays with implementing something new. Behind the closed doors Sony said A7V will get a new sensor and will be a pretty interesting camera. Nothing else was said.

If what they are writing is true than the Sony A7V will be announced at latest in November with availability in January/February. I still hope the Sony A7V is coming before fall.

I have two new info for you!

1. The Schneider Kreuznach 14-24mm f/2.8 FE lens will be priced at around $1100. That’s about $300 lens than this FE lens.
2. Schneider Kreuznach also displayed a lockup for another standard zoom lens. They said the wide end is 24mm. I guess this is a 24-70mm f/2.8 FE!
