(SR1) Sony to announce a new camera by end of May?

Share

I just got this from a new source (Note: not a reliable source):

Sony will stock a new camera product towards end of May.
Sales will begin on 3rd of june
they even bought extra display space in a major store.

I don’t know what this product is called

UPDATE: Reliable sources contacted us after this post and said so far they heard nothing about a possible camera announcement in late May. I therefore downgraded the rumor from SR3 (50% it’s correct) to SR1 (10% it’s correct).

But for the sake of discussion let’s assume the info is correct:

We believe the A7sIII and A9II will NOT be announced by end of May. The question is….what else could we get? Here are possible candidates:

1) Sony RX
The May-June timeframe has been often used by Sony to announce new RX cameras. So a new RX100x or RX10x camera could be announced

2) Sony A6500 successor:
Sony said multiple times there will be an A6500 successor. So this could have a good chance to be announced in late May..

3) Something unexpected:
A new A5 to compete against the Canon RP?

What do you think about that?

Adobe removes the $10/month basic plan and now you have to pay $20/month. Time to switch to Capture One folks!

Share

As reported by PetaPixel Adobe did remove the $10/month basic plan. The minimum you have to pay now is $20/month (see Adobe’s new pricing here).

Now do yourself a favour and buy Capture One for Sony for the price of $109. I use it and I am very happy with it. Yeah I know it’s always a pain to make a software switch. But once you get over with it you will be happy to not pay a monthly fee!

If you need something cheaper check out the new Luminar 3.1 with AI 2.0 filter. Get it here and use our coupon code “SAR” to save extra $10 at checkout!

UPDATE. Adobe just said that their $10 plan is still available (Click here):

(SR1) Some A7sIII specs…

Share

There is a new source who shared some A7sIII specs. He insisted these are correct. As this is a new source I will rank the rumor very low (10% chance he is right).

Sony executive says 4K 60p 422 no problem because it is with SLVS-EC. A7s3 will be an 8K 60P 10bit 422 low light powerhouse. The delay on the camera is because it takes time to develop the new XEVC 8K codec. IMX435 + SLVS-EC + XEVC = mirrorless revolution. The sensor is not officially a global shutter but the read out is so fast that it is damn near global shutter. Till next time!

Just to be clear, the leaked info about the nee IMX435 is 90% reliable. But what’s yet not confirmed at all if that’s the sensor that’s going to be used by the new A7sIII.

Reminder: This is the info I got about the IMX435 sensor:

“IMX435 STARVIS use Hecx Native Conversion Gain to Produce more SNR in Dark Scene:
(ISO 15 ~ 17.5EV/ISO 100 ~ 15.4EV/…/ISO 409600 ~ 6.9EV)

If readout all Conversion Gain, the Landscape can be extended to 120dB, like the high SNR sensor sony displayed on IEDM 2018. But IMX435 seems impossible to do this. It’s not a still picture style sensor.

The IMX435 sensor has 6 native sensitivities (from base to top as seen in the table):

ISO50 = Conversion Gain -18dB, EI +12dB, DR 17.4EV
ISO200 = Conversion Gain 0dB, EI +6dB, DR 15.4EV
ISO800 = Conversion Gain +18dB, EI 0dB, DR 13.4EV
ISO12800 = Conversion Gain +36dB, EI +6dB
ISO102400 = Conversion Gain +54dB, EI +6dB
ISO1638.4K = Conversion Gain +72dB, EI +24dB

Its full well capacity at base is particularly impressive at 605k e-, A7SII sensor IMX235 is “only” 159K e- with much bigger photosite. This again highlights the power of Exmor RS.”

Sony REAL TIME TRACKING Example shoots by Patrick Murphy-Racey

Share

Patrick Murphy-Racey:

At this point, in April of 2019, Real Time Tracking (RTT) is available in four camera bodies: a6400, a7III, a7RIII, and the venerable a9. RTT works best, as does everything else, on the a9. RTT combines all the traditional AF elements like distance, contrast, and phase detection but then adds into this mix, face detection, eye AF, color, and pattern.

The end result is amazing, allowing you to simply depress the shutter part way while pointing the camera at your desired subject (person, athlete, horse, car, motorcycle, etc.), then the A RTT system will track your subject anywhere in the viewfinder while you are shooting. You simply shoot when you want to and the camera takes care of focus.

This allows shooters to experience a new freedom never before possible so that you can just concentrate on content and moments, and then nail everything.

I recommend experimenting with sensitivity (1-5), depending on your sport of choice or assignment. I use 5 almost all the time for auto racing. For American football and basketball, I drop it down to 4. for tennis singles, 5, but for doubles, 3 or 4.
