Tamron confirmed Telephoto FE zoom is arriving soon

A mockup (almost final) of 17-28 mm f / 2.8 Di III RXD (Phototrend)

The French website Phototrend interviewed Kenji Nakagawa and Koji Satoh from Tamron. Kenji Nakagawa said this:

Regarding our strategy for the hybrid, today we already have a 28-75mm f / 2.8 and we announced the development of 17-28mm f / 2.8. We should also propose later another zoom lens that will cover the telephoto zoom range. Once available, this lens will cover the 17mm focal range at the telephoto. This is the first step to reach.

Oh yes, sounds like we are getting a new 70-200mm f/2.8 FE soon too ;)

But Kenji also talked about possible prime FE lenses:

We can also think of more advanced products, such as optics with stabilization or other functions, and we may have fixed focal lengths inspired by the SP range. There is a lot to do right now, the hybrid market is growing and we do not have enough products yet.
Our strategy is therefore to offer higher-level optics, the market moves very fast and we must accelerate to follow this market.

Zeiss interview at Dpreview: ZX1 price about the same as the LeicaQ and Sony RX1rII

Share

Dpreview had a chat with Elliot Shih, Senior Product Manager of Zeiss:

– ZX1 development initiaded four years ago
– ZX1 is made for photographers that need a fast workflow but at the same time superb image quality, which our sensor and lens can deliver.
– ZX1 design and development are completely in-house. Zeiss is using some external partners to support certain functions, for example the realization of the industrial design, and the design of the user experience (SAR note: I guess it’s Sony)
– ZX1 pricing will be in the same range as the Leica Q, Sony RX1R II.
– It will not have an open APP system (only some APP’s made with partners like Adobe).

New Dynamic Range test: Sony A7rIII vs the Panasonic S1R and Phase One 150MP cameras

Share

Photonstophotos measured the dynamic range of two new cameras: The Panasonic S1R and the Phase One IQ4 using the new 150 megapixel Sony sensor.

The new Panasonic holds up well with the Sony. Overall the Sony is still ahead with a major advantage in the 100-400 ISO range.

The $50,000 Phase One IQ4 uses the new Sony 150 MP sensor. And as expected it gives you over 1 stop DR performance advantage.

Tested: The Sony A6400 has no overheating issue

Share

David Oastler tested the new A64000 to see if it had some overheating issue. Luckely he encountered no issues at all.

Photogaphyblog tested the A6400 and the conclusion is rather mixed feeling:

Ultimately, the new Sony Alpha A6400 is a frustrating camera – outstanding in some aspects, most notably the AF system, good in others, but mediocre in some key areas by today’s high standards. Overall, it’s still a good bet, especially if you shoot a lot of moving subjects, but it also could potentially have been so much better…
