BCN published Full Frame mirrorless market share data for April. Sony’s market share fell to 32.1%. Nikon now leads the market thanks to strong Nikon Z5II sales. For a decade Sony mostly lead this kind of ranking. A year ago their market share peaked at 49.4%.

FujiFilm announced a fixed camera that works in a completely new way:
It placed the Sony RX100’s famous 1-inch sensor in a vertical position to focus on creating pure vertical photo and video content that will appeal to social “influencers”.
It has an analogue mode that locks the camera settings in order to have a kind of “camera-like” experience.
It has an integrated diptych mode
It only shoots in JPGs and has a lot of fun simulations.
It is rare to see real innovation in those days. So I applaud FujiFilm for trying something completely different. I think this is something we are missing in Sony cameras, which are too often focused on specifications and less on design and fun. And from the feedback received from US and European shop managers, the number of pre-orders for this camera is skyrocketing!
Ricoh/Pentax officially announced the development of the new GRIV (press text here). Ricoh mentions it will use a 25.74 MP sensor. I suspect this is the same exact sensor of the Sony A6700. I am sure this new Ricoh camera will sell very well, just like the current GRIII. Too bad Sony does not produce any APS-C RX camera with fixed lens :(

The new Zeiss Otus lenses have had a controversial start. From what I’ve heard, pre-order numbers are low and many feel that the price is just too high for what you get. Unlike 5-10 years ago when Zeiss basically had little competition, today you can get many excellent lenses for very little money.
Christopher Frost tried to dig into this new lens and highlight what makes them unique:
The Zeiss Otus ML 50mm f/1.4 looks, feels and performs like an utterly uncompromising lens. It’s designed and built for optical excellence, pure and simple, with no modern fads like autofocus or image stabilization, or even camera-driven aperture control. Manual-focus lenses won’t find a place in everyone’s dream team but I like that this new lens for mirrorless cameras is smaller, lighter and more affordable than its DSLR-based forebear. Even so, it’s still very pricey for a standard prime!
