Both new Batis lenses will ship from July 17 according to BHphoto (Click here). And as I told you yesterday the 90mm FE lens is now in Stock at Amazon and BHphoto.

And there is a new test made by Brian Van Der Beek:

25mm Batis: “The lens is quick to focus, and while it may look a tad big on the A7II, it’s comfortable to hold and makes shooting a breeze. Bokeh (ahhh the “B” Word!) is actually not that shallow because of the wideness of the focal length, but you get some nice shallow depth of field when the subject is close to the camera. What can I say? I’m sold!”

85mm Batis: “It compresses facial features nicely and gives a nice fall off to the background. The Batis 85mm f1.8 has all the hallmarks of a great portrait lens. I’ve always preferred the f1.8 versions of 85mm lenses as the 1.4 versions tend to be too shallow to be of much use. The 1.8/85 is fast to focus and easy to work with.“

Sony a7R II – Eye AF (AF-C)

Dpreview posted a full A7rII and RX100m4 Eye AF testing report. You can see the videos on Youtube:

Their conclusions are rather impressive:

1) A7rII with adapted 50mm Sigma EF lens: In fact, it’s this accurate phase-detect AF that allows the a7R II to focus the Sigma 50mm F1.4 lens with far more accuracy than a DSLR. We have to microadjust F1.4 primes all the time on DSLRs to get accurate focus out of them, and even then, peripheral AF points may continue to be off

2) A7rII with 24-70mm FE lens: The camera automatically finds the nearest eye, and continuously focuses on it, despite rather drastic and fast movement along the X, Y, and Z (distance) axes. No hunting, no jumping off to some other subject, just fast and effective AF on Richard’s eye.

3) Eye AF on the RX100m4: it’s really, really good, especially when you consider the RX100 IV has a contrast-detect only AF system.

Competition news: Nikon launches two $10,000+ 600mm and 500mm lenses!

Sony recently confessed they need to address the lack of telephoto prime lenses for the FE system. Something Nikon users have not to worry about: Today Nikon announced the 500mm f/4.0 ($10,300 here at Amazon) and the 600mm f/4.0 ($12,300 here at Amazon). What massive lenses! Of course it makes little sense to use them on your A7 camera. If you really need such a long focal length than jump on the Sony 500mm f/4.0 which is $2700 more expensive than the Nikon version but at least gives you full autofocus.

Let’s see if Sony will ever make such huge lenses for the FE system….

New Canon EF lens tests on the A7rII (Fotodiox adapter focuses faster than Metabones?).

For those interested to use their Canon EF lenses on the new A7rII here are two more short tests:

2) Lazarus shared his test findings via his Instagram profile:

PART 1: I played with the new A7r2 PRE-PRODUCTION version. The hype is real. Here is some important adapter info. For people with canon lenses. With Canon mount lenses the fotodiox af adapter is NOTICABLY FASTER than the metabones IV in autufocus speed. With fotodiox canon 24-70 F2.8 MII is faster than A7II with zeiss 55 F1. 8 in not so good light. NO JOKE!! also tested Tamron 24-70 F2. 8 VC. Canon 24-105 and Canon 70-200 F4. All focused well.

I would be very surprised to learnt he 4 times cheaper Fotodiox adapter works better. I hope to see some real video test soon to see if that claim is true or not!
