Our reader Björn Utpott just sent me the link to his latest 50mm lens comparison (Click here to read it). The big question is: Is the new [shoplink 8448]50mm lens[/shoplink] for NEX better than the “older” [shoplink 10220 ebay]Zeiss ZM 50mm f/1.4[/shoplink] lens? The answer is pretty easy, the lenses have been designed for completely different kind if use. The Sonnar ZM has a more old creamy look with sharp center and less sharper borders. The new Sony 50mm is sharp through all the frame.

A99 with 24 or 36 megapixels? (D800 beats 5DmarkIII)

Share

The two main A99 competitor are now shipping worldwide and at first glance it appears that the Nikon D800 sells more than the Canon 5DmarkIII. See the Amazon US rankings (Click here). According to my trusted sources Sony has two new FF sensors, one with 24 megapixels and the other one has 36 megapixel sensor (used for the Nikon D800). I am pretty sure the A99 uses the 24 megapixel sensor. But we are just a rumors site so everything is possible :)

The main and very basic question you should answer is:

“in a hypotetical future a9s what would u prefer”

Internal Sony OVF verus EVF debate rumors…

Share

Image on top: The OLED electronic viewfinder from Sony

Good Morning dear SAR readers!

Let’s start the new week with a smaller info I found at Dyxum (Click here). I am pretty sure Sony has no plan yet to make any new DSLR camera with optical viewfinder. But a Sony source(?) shared some details about the internal Sony discussion about the OVF and EVF theme. The source said “hat right now there is a significant division of opinion within Sony. The higher ranks want to leave OVF behind and press on with EVF only. But the staff who are closer to that actual market are strongly objecting to complete abandonment. And I was told that in the coming months Sony will release two top tier, Nine level cameras, one with an OVF and the other with an EVF.

As I said, my sources told me the next A99 is 100% an SLT camera. And that there is no plan yet to release a sister model with optical viewfinder So take the rumor with a grain of salt. What’s interesting is that there is a debate ongoing here and on many other forums about Sony’s decision to push the SLT technology. Something else. I had the chance to quickly compare the [shoplink 8454]NEX-7 EVF with the Fuji X PRO 1 hybrid viewfinder. I have to say that on first look the NEX-7 EVF is far more advanced and usable. As you know I am not saying this because I am a fanboy. At first I liked the idea of the hybrid viewfinder and it ma can be improved further by Fuji. But for now the NEX-7 kicks the ass with the OLED technology. Another story is the amazing Fuji sensor. I wish Sony could bring that kind of improvement in future cameras. Let’s get rid of that Anti aliasing filter!

DxO now supports the Beercan! For a long time, it seemed like DxO only made correction modules for current or recent lenses. I was surprised to find out that they released a module for such an old lens (regardless of its cult-like following). Sony A77 review at Megapixel (Click here).

I did some panorama shots with the Sony A77 and the Rokinon 8mm fisheye. I used a tripod to take shots at 8 positions (45 degree increments). I took 3 bracketed shots at position, for 24 total shots.
I used Photomatix Pro to create 8 HDR images fo each position, then Hugin to stitch the regular panorama and the little planet.

Full 50mm f/1.8 E-mount review by Kurt Munger

Share

While the [shoplink 8450]Zeiss 24mm f/1.8[/shoplink] is certainly the highest quality lens for the NEX system the 50mm f/1.8 is the real must have lens if you want a good and fast lens for less than a thirds of the price you pay for the Zeiss. And to see how good the lens is switch over to Kurt Munger (Click here) that just posted the full 50mm review.

If you are on the waiting list than you might be happy to know that first stores are already shipping the lens and most will do so within the next 2-3 weeks. Here is my usual full preorder list I check to see what’s going on with Sony stuff. Click on the shop name to see if they have the 50mm lens:

(SR5) First image of the new 18-135mm SAM lens!

Share

The Sony Europe Press center just leaked the image of the new 18-135mm SAM lens! They now removed the image from the page but our japanese friends from DigicamInfo copied the image. A trusted source confirmed that the image is real.

As I told you weeks ago Sony is splitting up their new product announcements. New SLT and NEX stuff is coming in a series of small announcements! I think that’s a nice move from Sony and keeps me busy at SAR ;)  The A37, new NEX-F3 and new lenses are coming!

For US readers: Keep on eye on the NEX-7 at Amazon (Click here). It keeps comign and going in Stock for the normal price.

The Metabones EOS to NEX adapter was defective. Now issue fixed.

Share

Andrew Reid from EosHD (Click here) discovered that the very acclaimed EOS to E-mount adapter with electronic controls from Metabones was defective! Andrew says the optical design has “major ghosting and inner reflections from the internal plastic housing.

The good news is that Metabones now fixed the problem with an anti-reflective part. If you already own one of the first issued adapters contact Metabones and send your adapter back for a service!
