Curiosity: Sony considering chip unit spinoff

Bloomberg reports that Sony is considering a spinoff and listing of its semiconductor business as soon as this year. The Japanese conglomerate may retain a minority stake in Sony Semiconductor Solutions after the spinoff, Bloomberg reported.

A Sony spokesperson said this:

The article is based on speculation and there are no such specific plans

While this is only a rumor, it’s unclear what effects this would have on the camera industry. Probably none…

Coming soon: Sony FX8 or another new kind of FX model?

Last week, Sony registered a new camera code in China. The document indicates that it will be manufactured in Shanghai, where Sony usually produces most of its cine cameras. I’m not 100% sure which camera it is yet, but there are two rumors circulating on the internet:

  1. New Sony FX8: A direct successor of the FX6/FX9 cameras
  2. New Sony FX compact camera: Not a FX3II but something close to it.

New Sigma 200mm f/2.0 FE lens will be announced before summer!

First a correction: The next Sigma lens will be a 200mm f/2.0 and not f/1.8 as previously rumored.

Now two trusted sources have confirmed that we will get a 200mm f/2.0 SPORT FE and L-mount lens before the summer. Delivery will probably start in July. And both also told me that a second fast lens will be announced shortly thereafter (and it’s not the 35mm f/12. II). More about this lens soon on SAR.

I hope to have more data and maybe even pictures of this lens soon!
