At 1850g, it weighs 150g more than the next Laowa 200mm f/2.0. Of course, we don’t know if this is due to Sigma using a more complex and superior optical design.
At about 8:00 a.m. on August 11, 2025, a collision happened around 10.5 nautical miles east of Huangyan Island in the South China Sea. A Chinese Coast Guard ship and a Chinese Navy destroyer were chasing the Philippine Coast Guard’s BRP Suluan when the destroyer made a risky turn. The crash badly damaged the Coast Guard ship’s front, leaving it unable to operate, and the destroyer also got some damage.
All this was recorded by a Sony Alpha Photographer. The still images in this video are shot with what appears to be a Sony A7IV with Sony 200-600mm G lens. Impressive how calm he was while recording everything!
Funny how history works — after more than a decade, we’re suddenly getting not one, but two 200mm f/2.0 FE lenses! Just last week, I leaked the specs and first image of the new Venus Optics 200mm f/2.0 FE. And today… I’ve got something just as exciting: an exclusive leaked image of the upcoming Sigma 200mm f/2.0 FE:
This lens sports the same sleek white finish and familiar control layout as Sigma’s larger 300–600mm FE. It takes 105mm filters, weighs in at under 2 kg, and—according to my sources—delivers impressively fast autofocus. I do not have the pricing of the lens yet but it will be unveiled next week on August 19. We are also getting the new 12mm f/1.4 APS-C lens and maybe also the 35mm f/1.2 II FE. So let me sum the spec of all lenses coming soon:
In August, there will also be other announcements regarding lenses from Chinese manufacturers. And don’t forget that Sony will also be launching a new FE GM 100mm f/2.8 macro lens!
This is the fist image that shows the full details of the new Laowa 200mm f/2.0 FE lens. The lens weight is 1,6kg and it comes for E/Z/EF mount. It has a Fn button, AF/MF switch, focus limiter. What’s curious is the part near the mount. it’s definitely for drop in filters!
What do you think about this lens? If price ain’t crazy I think it could be a hotseller for Venus Optics!
