What features should Sony add on the A1 via firmware upgrade?

The Nikon Z9 is seriously challenging the A1. It’s cheaper and in some aspects it beats the A1 performance. If you hope Sony will release a new A1 in 2022 well, forget it. The A1 won’t be replaced at least before end 2023. But the camera will get some major firmware updates and possibly a new price drop too. So please let Sony know what you want to be seen on a future A1 fw update by commenting this post!

Dpreview claims the Sony ZV-E10 still has the edge over the Nikon Z30

Dpreview compared the two cameras and came to the following conclusion:

The Sony ZV-E10 and Nikon Z30 are very similar cameras in many respects, which makes it a little hard to choose between them.

If we were primarily shooting stills, we’d probably opt for the Nikon. The better kit zoom and smoother sharing experience with Snapbridge definitely count in its favor, as does its front-and-rear dial control setup. Its full-width video if you want 4K/30 is also a distinct advantage.
However, the Sony’s better battery life, the inclusion of a headphone socket, and the much wider choice of lenses are all compelling benefits, if you plan to move beyond using the 16-50mm power zoom. It exhibits a lot of rolling shutter effect in video, which is a major black mark against it. But it’s the ZV-E10’s autofocus that gives it the edge for us. It’s easier and quicker to use when shooting stills and that bit more reliable when shooting video, and we don’t think the Nikon has enough to counter that.

It’s now that half of the year where we will finally get new Sony cameras: A7rV, ZV, Cine E-mount and more?

At the very beginning of the year I told you that Sony had to change their product launch roadmap for 2022. With lenses only coming during the first half of the year and new cameras to be announced during the second half. We now officially entered the second half of the year and we can start to look forward to those:

  • New ZV entry mid level Blogger camera. I have no date yet but this could be the first camera to be announced in late Summer
  • New E-mount cine camera. It’s coming for sure, maybe in September…
  • New A7rV. I have no specs yet, but the camera is coming with 100% certainty this autumn
  • Maybe something else too…some kind of unexpected model…but I still need confirmation on this

Of course, there will be some new lenses too!
