Coming soon: New Tamron, Laowa lens announcements…and Sony 85mm f/1.2 to be announced in Spring?

Share

This month we got two new lenses, the Sigma 20mm FE and the Samyang 135mm f/1.8 FE. But there is more tom come:

  • Tamron said they will announce new lens(es)
  • Laowa said they will announce new lens(es)

Regarding: Sony, this is what I can say:

  • With 99% certainty no new E-mount camera will be announced at CP+.
  • The next camera to be announced is a new ZV-1 styled camera in Spring
  • The 85mm f/1.2 may be announced some time after the CP+ show in Spring.

I know this doesn’t sound exciting for now, but I have been told there is a lot to come particularly during the second half of 2022!

Because science is cool: NASA used a special “trick” to take this selfie of the James Webb telescope!

Share

Some of you might recall that the James Webb telescope doesn’t feature any monitoring cameras. But NASA found a way to still take images of primary mirror. Nasa writes:

This “selfie” was created using a specialized pupil imaging lens inside of the NIRCam instrument that was designed to take images of the primary mirror segments instead of images of space. This configuration is not used during scientific operations and is used strictly for engineering and alignment purposes. In this case, the bright segment was pointed at a bright star, while the others aren’t currently in the same alignment. This image gave an early indication of the primary mirror alignment to the instrument.

It’s exciting to have at least one image of the telescope in space! And it’s why I love science….they always find a way to solve a problem ;)

Niveau Wiggle Trioscopic 3D lens announced

Share

This new Niveau Wiggle Trioscopic 3D lens has been launched on Kickstarter. And Marc from SonyAlphaBlog tested it. He concluded:

The Niveau Wiggle 3D Trioscopic lens (100$) is a refreshing lens , it is very fun to use and will allow to create original gif to illustrate a product, your website or for your social network
For a 3D printed lens it is well built and fully functional with a aperture and focusing ring. The lens fit well on The Sony body without any scrap or risk to damage your camera
The sharpness and color rendition is good when you close down a bit the aperture , but a little bit slowly wide open
You will need to learn the technique to post process them and for the first one it could take you 15min per photo but with some practice you get this down to 4-5 minutes
If you want to experiment something different , worth to try it and get fun
