$1399 Nikon Z5 announced. Here is the spec comparison with the Sony A7II and Sony A7III

Share

Today Nikon announced the cheapest Z camera in their range: the $1399 Nikon Z5. You can see a full spec comparison with the Sony A7II and A7III on that special BH comparison page. I don’t feel like Sony has to make a model to compete against it. The much cheaper A7II holds up well while the A7III has a BSI sensor (Z5 has not) faster frame rate (10fps vs 4.5fps) and definitely a much faster autofocus.

But there is one more Sony surprise:
If the rumors are true than Sony might announce a new sub $999 FF camera in late summer early autumn. But unlike the Z5 or A7 series it won’t have the EVF in the center and be smaller than all of them. But those are wild rumors for now and I hope to get more info about this camera after the Sony A7sIII announcement.

Sony A7sIII specs confirmations: Full passive cooling (no vent), 12MP BSI sensor (no 48 Quad) and SDexpress Type A card support

Share

I can clarify definitively some points I wasn’t entirely sure about until today:

Sensor:

Sony A7sIII uses a new 12MP BSI sensor. There is no indication it uses the 48MP Quad sensor (downscaled to 12MP).

Cooling:

Sony A7sIII has no active vent. It only uses a pure new passive cool system.

Cards:

The camera has two slots. And each slot is capable of taking SD cards and the brand new CFexpress Type A cards.

Our reader VLAD designed this new Sony menu system

Share

Our reader Vlad sent me this:

I made a video concept of Sony’s menu just for fun. Maybe it will be interesting for you ;-)

As a designer I have always felt that the Sony menu could be better.

In my concept I didn’t focus on structure at all.
I focused more on visual style, and on the possibility to use touchscreen in menu.
And it seems that Search functionality will be pretty smart in such a complex menu.
Also i think it will be much better and intuitive if menu sections will not be split across multiple pages (Like Autofocus page 1,2,3) and will be on one page, but scrollable, like Ricoh GR Menu for example. It might keep menu more simple.
