New A99 video roundup!
Sony A99 Iceland Expedition from Enrique Pacheco on Vimeo.
Enrique Pacheco shot this great video with the A99. You can also read his story with the A99 on his blog: “After more than two weeks of winter expedition in the south of Iceland, photographing, filming and time-lapsing all kind of landscapes and situations under harsh weather conditions, I can say that the Sony A99 has performed as a truly professional camera, offering all its potential at the highest level without any problem. What more can you ask a camera today?”
And here is an interview with Charles Michel und Giorgio Balmelli about the A99:

6 months ago |Although the A99′s AVCHD2.0 codec sucks the big one compared to Canon All-I for example, as well as the stronger AA filter on the SLTs. I would like to see someone eventually do a comparison with the HDMI uncompressed output into a proper codec for a real show of what it can do. The cleaner the output the more there is to work with in post which is what we need… AVCHD is completely useless for enthusiast/pro video.

6 months ago |Even with a stronger AA filter, the A99 manages to display more moire and aliasing than its direct rival – the Canon 5DmkIII, in this situation an uncompressed video won’t help. Sony either does this on purpose to protect its own Pro division cameras – FS lineup, or the sensors aren’t optimized for video capture.

6 months ago |To be honest Jurka, it looks like your sample videos are all shot with “Movie” button i.e. Automatic mode as the shudder you’re experiencing is because the shutter speed is incorrect for handheld. If you can prove you understand how to use the camera properly in manual mode for video then maybe someone will take your rants a bit more serious. The A99 does have its softness problems, actually all Sony SLTs are the same for Video. The AVCHD2 codec is a bit downside but with a cleaner output via HDMI to external recorder it should allow a lot more post grading and sharpening without artifacting.

6 months ago |I had to return my A99 because of the poor video quality, Sony is sending me a replacement. If the second camera shows the same softness my move to Sony will regretfully be short lived. My story is a part of the DPreview discussions going on right now. Thankfully I bought my lenses at a great price so I should be able to flip them with no loss, but right now the A99 is shaping up to be a major disappointment.
