NEX-7 and A65 win TIPA award (NEX-7 in Stock)

For US readers: Four new NEX-7 kits are now in Stock at Amazon (Click here).
The NEX-7 and A65 got the TIPA price award (Click here to see the website). The NEX-7 won the best expert mirrorless price. You may would think that the camera has beaten the main contender the Fuji X PRO 1…but this isn’t true. The Fuji won the Best Professional mirrorless camera category. I don’t get the difference between “expert” and “professional” category
The A65 won within the category best advanced DSLR.

2 years ago |It looks like almost every camera won an award. It’s like they created award categories to make sure every company is represented. Even for the lenses, they made sure each company had a winner.

2 years ago |As usual. Winners are always distributed over the different manufacturers.
And Sony won the category for best memory card. Yay!

“Professional” cameras allow for cable releases or wired remotes that don’t lose any shooting functionality when used. They allow features that cannot be accomplished with IR remotes… Like bracketing without touching the camera, or shooting without delay. They don’t mandate flimsy remotes that require batteries.
“Expert” cameras (like NEX)… apparently do not.

2 years ago |Oh… and of course “Professional” cameras use black lenses instead of silver.
Turn your NEX into “Semi-Pro” by using a black lens. Or mount a silver Leica lens and stick with mere “Expert” status.

2 years ago |Given the choice between being an “expert” or a “pro”, I’ll take “expert”. Being a pro is no guarantee that you’re an expert or even any good at what you do. There are plenty of mediocre or just plain lousy “pro” photographers out there, just as there are sub-par players in every other profession.
That said, I’m sure the X-Pro1 is a fine camera. But better than the NEX-7? I don’t think so.

pro doesn’t mean you are good

2 years ago |Difference between Pro and Expert is in the name – made mostly because all the companies need to receive awards.
Still though – it’s not as funny as giving award to camera that’s not in the market nor anyone ever actually reviewed it to see if it’s any good or a total over-hyped crap.
TIPA – meaningless award from clueless people.

A small camera cannot be ‘pro’, as simple as that!. Most pros take pride in having the stamina that is required.

2 years ago |If Nex-7 was in the expert category, what competition did X-Pro 1 had anyway?
Wait a second, what competition did Nex-7 had? They are the only camera in that category.

2 years ago |I agree with the A65 choice since I purchased one over the A77. It gets very little attention but is a great value. Electronic viewfinder, pellicle mirror, GPS, a three inch screen that tilts, 10 frames per second, for $1000 US. It isn’t made out of stainless steel and doesn’t have 1/8000th shutter speed or at top panel LCD but is advanced in all the right places if you are on a tight budget.

2 years ago |It is a great value indeed. But there is more to A77 than what you listed:
- Better AF and micro adjust
- Ergonomics – 2 dials, nav stick, more buttons …
- Houdini LCD
- Faster flash sync and PC socket
- Iso 50
…
A57 is $200 less, losing GPS, lower resolution (can live with that if not printing above 13×19) and lesser EVF (still good tho).
None of the above are deal breakers for me so I will save the $200 towards a future ‘expert’ cam purchase

2 years ago |I moved from Nikon to Sony as the A900 was thousands $ less than the Nikon D3 24mpxl and its equal re resolution. I’m waiting to see what’s next from Sony but getting bored and frustrated, if Sony simply introduces a new 24mpxl full frame why would I upgrade from the A900 24mpxl full frame? All I need is the RAW output so bells and whistles are not of interest, I want RAW and resolution. I’d jump to 36 mpxl A99 in a flash but I don’t see any advantage in improved ISO (I use a tripod) video (not really interested) live view would be great but more resolution is what I’m waiting for. I’m thinking of buying a bunch of Sony CZ lenses ( 85 and 135mm + the Sony 50 macro for architectural / landscape work, a big investment) but been waiting to see if Sony will match the Nikon D800, if not why would I sensibly continue to invest in Sony lenses with no guarantee that Sony will evolve to the higher professional res sensors? – I’ll make the jump (back) to Nikon. Times running out.

2 years ago |I’m guessing the GXR is out as it’s APS. Too bad if you want a full frame mirrorless without IR contamination problems.
Thomas
2 years ago |It’s the sensor and the image quality. The image quality from the Fuji is better. Handling is another point because of the lame autofocus. It depends which kind of images you take.

2 years ago |Admin: Did you notice the Nikon D3200 at ~1/2 the price of the NEX-7, presumably with the same 24MP Sony sensor?
If this is an indicator, the rumored A99 will cost ~2X price of the D800.
Rurik
2 years ago |Nop.
Rather it’s an indicator that price of sensor itself is not too expensive part of photo camera. If Nikon takes one of 2 best crop sensors on market and puts it to entry camera dumping colors to 12-bit.

2 years ago |the nex7 is a high end CSC, the 3100 is an entry level DSLR, they are worlds different. The 3200 is looking like a nice camera though, especially for an entry level model.
