(SR4) New Sony announcement planed for May 26. But Fukushima disaster could change everything…

One of our very good sources told us that Sony has the plan to announce new Sony products on May 26. That includes the 55-200mm lens for NEX cameras. But all my sources do confirm that there is now a very “uncertain” situation. Sony like other Japanese companies is facing many production problems. While the product announcement planed for May 26 has yet NOT been delayed there is a fair chance that the announcement could be delayed. Let’s hope Sony can fix some of the current production issues.
Editor’s note: It’s very difficult for me and my sources to get reliable info about the upcoming products. If you have some info about the new Sony roadmap (including the NEX-C3 and A35 new announcements plan) feel free to contact me at sonyalpharumors@gmail.com or use the contact form on the right sidebar. As you know you can avoid to send me your name or email address. It’s 100% anonymous (it doesn’t store your IP address).

3 years ago |What you are seeing are all E mount lenses – existing ones and those planned for release in 2011 and 2012. Sony used this picture at Photokina last year. The 3 lenses to the right are the current trio, the four to the left are planned for 2011, with the three central ones for 2012.
More specifically (from left to right, quotes are the exact wording used by Sony at Photokina): “Macro”, “Portrait”, “Carl Zeiss wide-angle fixed focal length” note blue/white Zeiss logo, “Telephoto Zoom”, “High Performance Standard Zoom” G lens, “Middle Telephoto”, “Wide Angle Zoom”, existing 16mm, 18-200mm, 18-55mm lenses. This should give us a range of 10 lenses by late 2012.
It seemed to be Verboten to handle these new “lenses” on display at Photokina but I was able to look closer at them during the Focus exhibition in March. They are not actual lenses, but mock ups consisting of a machined barrel, mount, and plastic? blanks for front elements. I’m not sure how advanced the plans are, or how subsequent events in Japan may have altered the scheduled “road map”.
Sony have given very little firm information about specification, but rumours seem to suggest a 30mm macro, 24/1.7 Zeiss w/a, 55-200 zoom, and the portrait lens (a version of 50/1.8 or 85/2.8?)this year. Could the rumoured 16-80mm be the high performance G lens for 2012, along with a “middle telephoto” (a version of the 85/2.8, or something longer?), and a w/a zoom – which judging from the appearance of the mock up appears to be not particularly wide?
Is the plan just to feed us a few little scraps so as to keep us interested, or is information so scant because some designs are far from finalised? It seems a little strange to give us such a specific road map, plus lens mock ups, yet on the other hand so little firm information even about focal lengths. Any ideas why?

3 years ago |Not really. No such risks where I live. No earthquakes, no forest fires, no tsunami, no nuclear power stations, no hurricanes, no tornado, just a bit of rain really, it rarely snows heavily too.

3 years ago |that’s the problem, raw resources in asia is 10 times cheaper then in US. hence, why they didnt move. taiwan faces the same issue with natural disaster like typhoon and earthquake too, hence the pricing for computer and digital gadgets goes up and down.

3 years ago |Actually, the NEX-3C doesn’t have Eye-Fi. I’m posting this, because it could simply be that your source is confused, and it could be that the NEX-C3 is no news at all.

Most of the cameras below the a850 are made in thailand anyway. I know parts are shipped from Japan which will slow production. As far as nikon goes everything below d700 is made in thailand or china as well. I work at a large camera store and d 7000 are not in short supply here in the US. the big one is the canon 7d, canon 5d, d700 d3 and d3x,s will be hard to get. I am more concerned about the lenses the good ones for sony and nikon are made in japan. Unfortunatley we are not a direct sony dealer and treat it like a red headed step child? All I can say is that the 70-200 g is readily available because i just ordered one!!

3 years ago |Each place on the world has it risks. “Mankind” chose to live there because it also has its advantages.
For example most of my country is below sea level, so we risk floods. On the other hand it also produces a very fertile soil.
Same thing with vulcanos. Dangerous every now and then, but also very fertile. You accept the risks of your everyday life and fear the ones you don’t know.
Right now Japan is suffering from earthquakes. But the people there live with it and stay strong.
You should do so too.
We can wait for our latest gizmo’s.

There is no level 8
It is on par with Chernobyl.
The poor people of Japan can not get a break.

3 years ago |Many more aftershocks in Japan’s future.
http://www.gpb.org/news/2011/04/07/why-more-shaking-is-in-japans-near-future
“Large earthquakes have more, larger aftershocks,” says Sevilgen. “The basic rule is if you have one magnitude 9 earthquake, you can have 10 magnitude 8s, 100 magnitude 7s, and a thousand magnitude 6s.”……
10,000 Magnitude 5.0 and so on.
Cnn says aftershocks will likely be frequent for up to 1 year.
Between this and the rolling blackouts it doesn’t bode well for Sony’s production of image sensors where sensitive equipment has to be re-calibrated after such aftershocks.

3 years ago |Since Japan is still suffering a month later with 6.6 magnitude after-shocks, it’s not surprising things are uncertain! Imagine having what is pretty much an earthquake every day/few days.
