3 years ago |Looks great. If IQ and ISO performance on the A560 and A580 can match or surpass the Canon 550D and Nikon D90 then Sony might be on to something here.
They seem to be getting their act together and delivering some quality and innovative products. I’m looking forward to seeing some reviews!
Does anyone actually know when they’ll be officially announced?

Much appreciated in advance.

3 years ago |These ones look really great. But after some thinking I have to say that considering A33 and A55 are going to interfere in the Samsung GH1 and similia league, they look great as well. Only downside for A33/A55 is the NEX battery. I don’t think it can give enough juice when compared to NP-FM500H. What if they make a battery grip where you can stuff these last ones? It would be nice
P.S: Small disappointment if they insist on using memory stick for their cameras.. Serious amateurs have plenty of CF/SD at home.. They are not willing to buy MS I guess..
mike
3 years ago |@Emopunk
NEX battery not a problem, works well on NEX and they have full time liveview, screen never goes off and they last for hours continuously. The A33/A55 will consume far less power than a traditional DSLR will, no heavy mirror mechanism to move around, non issue.
Also Sony has been using SD and Memory stick for awhile now so no worries that it will be Memory Stick only, non issue.

3 years ago |None of sony 35 format camera (alpha and nex and R1) uses MS only.
There is one DSLR can’t use MS without accessories (although included in package).
You are free to use SD on all newly released cameras (cybershot included)

3 years ago |MS is fine these days.
There is really quite a size difference–this one is pretty much the size of the A550.
And I do believe I see a DOF Preview button! Now if it will just do MLU & Program Shift!

3 years ago |Do you think the A33 can compet with the NEX thanks to its size ?
mike
3 years ago |@Thalantas
Compete how?
I can assure you it won’t fit in your pocket like the NEX can.
So not real sure what your question is.
I use several cameras, each one for a specific purpose, the only thing they all have in common is they all take photographs.
There is no one camera for all situations, so trying to compare the NEX to the A33 without knowing what you want to compare is very difficult.

3 years ago |Hmm.. was kinda hoping they could offer 1080p video. And does anybody know if they include a mic input or something similar? I want this to beat the RebelT2i in the video category, cause I want to upgrade my alpha350, and i want to stay Sony!! But the video should be good!

3 years ago |@mike: to be more precise i was mostly thinking of a combination of size (the picture comparing the A33 next to the Nex was that they were pretty close) and the functions.
About the pocket fact, I honestly never have put my compact in my pocket, and i’d never put a NEX ($600+) in a jean pocket. (plus you’d have to take the lens on/off all the time increasing the risk of dust on the sensor, unless you have the pancake but with the pancake it wont fit in my jeans!).
Matixo
3 years ago |So, the question is: Should I buy a pellix or a new alpha dslr? I suppose pellix will be more expensive than new 5xx because of a better video working.
Actually I have a Sony alpha 100 and I’d like to buy an AVCHD DSLR in order to keep my lenses , flashes and batteries.
Regards.

3 years ago |@Thalantas
Well I don’t wear tight fitting jeans so I can throw my NEX-5 with the 18-55mm attached in my shorts pocket with no problem and no fear of dust getting in the camera, even easier with the 16mm attached. Not sure why you’d have a problem putting a camera in your pocket regardless of the cost of it. The Leica X1 is a compact camera and it cost $2000, I’d stick that in my pocket all day long with no fears, same as I do my Sony TX5.
The whole reason for the NEX is to have something pocketable that gives high quality like a DSLR, they didn’t make it small because they have small hands like some may think. They made it small for pockets, period.
The size of the A33 and the NEX are very different so is the style of camera, I’m pretty sure they are not categorized the same as they shouldn’t be. Sure people will compare them, that’s what people do, same way people compare the NEX to DSLR’s, it’s ridiculous.
So yes it will “compete” when compared to _________, insert whatever you want…

3 years ago |I just can’t imagine the specs for the A7xx when it’s due.
Now that I see it, no wonder they have delayed the released of A7xx, becuz the specs of A580 seems to have eaten into the segment of A7xx.
Sky_walker
3 years ago |oh, I can:
A7xx of the dreams:
* 10FPS
* 20MPx (for me 10 would be enough, but if we go up – let’s go with everything!)
* 100%, x0.95 OVF with artificial horizon overlay
* 25 point AF, 7 point cross, including 3 triple-cross. (corss sensors: 2 on the sides, 1 up, 1 down, center)
* Dual memory slot: CF and SDXC
* ISO range of 100-12800
* video with AVC HD: 1080 30p or 720 60p, no record time limit
* two control wheels, many many buttons
* Depth of Field preview
* Manual focus check LV (cause I like it for nighttime tripod photography)
* New, faster silent motor for screwdriver.
* Wireless Ratio Control for flash groups (up to 3, as in VHL58)
* intervalometer
* GPS with compass
* Sweep panorama to RAW (otherwise it’s useless)
* HDR to RAW
* Optional grip with incorporated memory block to improve DSLR internal buffer size – for longer continuous shooting mode. (Give us options: 1GB / 4GB, so that we could decide how much we’d like to pay. Make the grip standard for future DSRLs of the line)
and that would be all

If you look at the pics you provided, you can see that the dual slots are Memory Stick and SD.

I totally agree with you, it’s just that the amateur i am don’t see the cameras in different categories. For me the categorie is the image quality (the sensor)..i know i might reduce the “image quality equation to its very basic”.
The A33 and the NEX would carry the same sensor, for instance to me, they would be in the same category. If their price is very close, I would seriously think about comparing them. As I am an amateur I guess the smart choice would be the NEX that has a lot more assistance and automatisme but who knows, a photographer might be discovered deep inside me and want to take control of the camera!
Bertrand
3 years ago |P.S: i don’t wear tight jean, i wear normal jeans with normal pocket. A wallet fit but a camera with a lens wouldn’t. I am sure i couldn’t push a little harder to make the NEX fit in with the pancake but it wouldn’t feel comfortable and I never feel secure with shorts and the “lower pockets” there, because when you sit you might hit the chair with the camera and am not sure it would appreciate a lot.

bigger viewfinder, weather sealing, faster AF, better ergonomics, more buttons, top LCD, the list goes on…
It will probably be like the eos 550d, 50d and 7d, all very closely matched in specs, but aimed at different markets…
