Dennis_photo
2 years ago |Video in 24 and 60 fps… any idea if Sony still has the annoying regionalized differences so NTSC countries will have 24/30/60 fps while PAL countries have 25/50 fps, and no possibility to change when travelling?
NEXfive
2 years ago |Since even a NEX-FSx00 does switch off and on automatically when changing from PAL (25/50p) to NTSC (24+30/60p) I doubt the NEX photo cameras will ever get this feature.
Modern digital FlatTV don’t follow PAL or NTSC standards anyway, so whether Europe plus most of rest rest of the world have to give up 25p or the US their 30p to get a worldwide standard – I doubt this will ever happen.
Dennis_photo
2 years ago |I’m not concerned by what signals tv:s can handle. Most modern tv:s can take whatever you throw at them.
The concern is that you want to be able to use 60/30 Hz when in a country with 60 Hz in their electrical system – and thus indoor lighting that has that frequency. And similarly use 50/25 Hz in a country with 50 Hz electrical system.
And – even more important for me – use 24p when the end goal is to create a BluRay Disc with the video material. It irritates me very much that because I live in a country with a 50 Hz electrical system (Sweden) I cannot use 24p with a Sony digital camera. 25p is not supported by BluRay Discs, so I’m forced to use 50i – and I do not like interlaced video, way too many problems associated with that technology.
NEXfive
2 years ago |You won’t get it, since there’s obviously a single oscillator for 29.97p built into cameras in the US, a different one for 25p in Europe plus two of them into each NEX-FSx00 needing to switch off and on the whole camera when changing between PAL and NTSC. Therefore 24p in the US with 23.976p is only near 24 frames/second in cinema.
While you’re having problems with 25p and BluRay others would have with 24p, since e.g. the BBC does not accept material filmed with 24p. You can’t have this universal as long as the whole broadcasting systems are depending on different frequencies all over the world – similar to railway track gauges.
Next chance to get rid of this and go for a world wide standard would be 4K, but I’m expecting them even skipping this way out…
Dennis_photo
2 years ago |If Sony still have hardware differences they need to address that detail and update the video hardware.
Even the not so advanced Nikon D3200 can switch between NTSC and PAL modes, and it can film in 24p (http://www.dpreview.com/previews/nikond3200/2).
It is not that advanced technology. At the company I work we have in-house developed hardware that can handle PAL, NTSC and other video formats without restart.
If they release an a99 with these limitations it will be embarrassing.
NEXfive
2 years ago |You don’t get it – even your linked Nikon D3200 specs do not offer 24/25/30/50/60p – instead probably similar to Sony’s FS-x000 you’ve got to switch between PAL 25/50p and NTSC 30/60p including an odd 23.976p near cinema. The base clock speed is too essential to any digital system to have it all in one as comfortable as you’re demanding what’s only possible with some sort of workaround.
Since the NEX-F3 is a consumer camera succeeding the NEX-C3 that has been crippled to 720p video and did not even have a remote sensor, I really doubt Sony will give this clock speed switch option to this gadget’s target customers.
NEXfive
2 years ago |…plus, Dennis, beside the recording process itself different clock speeds are easy to handle for any local hardware, since missing pictures can be calculated or higher frame rates scaled down to the local standard and rendering is not often needed in real time. But when it comes to AVCHD or even raw video recording exact base clock speeds are necessary, because this effects the whole not so tolerant chain from recording over broadcasting and airing up to viewing.
With the same oscillator for 25/50p it would be easy to record real 24/30/60p, but not this 23.976/29.97/59.94p they’re naming like that in the US.
Dennis_photo
2 years ago |I am trying to get it.
I am not really bothered by incapabilities of the NEX-F3 or a37 since those are rather simple cameras and I do not expect so much from them.
But when not even a57, a65 or a77 can record video with different frame rates as the D3200 can, I am having a difficult time getting it.
Restarting the camera for switching between PAL and NTSC oscillators is no problem, travelling between countries takes longer than starting a camera. Neither are the almost-24 23.976 fps, it is close enough for me.
I admit it was a little unfair of me comparing the video systems we deliver at work with Sony’s cameras. Our display systems are used in military helicopters and jet fighters and handles several video channels in parallel. I think I’ll ask our hardware guys about this. I am currently writing software controlling the video hardware so I meet them regularly and it would be interesting to hear their point of view in this matter. For me it is very easy, I’m just writing the correct hexadecimal numbers in the correct registers….
The main point was that different fps based on different systems is not unknown technology. Sony is a big player in video recording, and I really have a difficult time understanding why they can’t do at least what other camera manufacturer’s manage.
If you can bear with my stubborness in this matter, I would like if you could elaborate what you wrote about “With the same oscillator for 25/50p it would be easy to record real 24/30/60p, but not this 23.976/29.97/59.94p they’re naming like that in the US.” This seems a little strange to me, wouldn’t at least two oscillators be needed?
NEXfive
2 years ago |Yes, that’s what I’m telling you the whole time, that you’re having one oscillator for 25/50p in Europe and Asia or a different one for 23.976/29.97/59.94p what they name 24/30/60p in the US and probably both of them in all these cameras you’ve got to switch off and on when changing between PAL and NTSC – that’s why I’m hoping 4K will change this and bring a world wide universal standard…
Nikko
2 years ago |oh only the fps is the difference between a57 and a37??

Evjenij
2 years ago |Black lenses are a dime a dozen. Chrome or silver lenses without paint are rare, why would you want to cover up nice looking metal in gross black paint? Because it somehow makes you look more “pro?” Would you paint a the blade of a sword black? Would you paint your kitchen knives black? Would you paint coins black too? Would you paint the chrome bits of a Harley black? Gee, nothing says class like black paint. LOL
Rooru S.
2 years ago |18-200 in black? seems people got what they wanted. Lenses in black instead of silver. Now take better pictures with it LOL.
Admin, And what about the new E-mount lens specs? don’t tell me the new one was the new color option U_U
Evjenij

Jack Le Boul
2 years ago |Why is Sony implementing 60i.
60fps interlaced was used often when the processors were not able to handle progressive, but now with the new Bionz, that should not be a problem.
This is terrible, stick with 24/25/30p instead, if 60p is for premium cameras.
hanugro
2 years ago |It is 30p in 60i container if they stick with implementation in older model (A55/33/35)
Almazar80
2 years ago |I don’t think the specs listed are complete for the cameras. For example, 720P 60p is not listed… I’d say that people should wait for the official, more complete specifications before pronouncing judgement. Rumor sites are great for letting people know of new products coming in the future. Sometimes, though, it takes a while before full product specifications come out.
For example, I believe that a new A57/A65 bundle will incorporate the 18-135mm SAM. If that lens is a good performer, those cameras will be incredible deals for the money (if the new bundle cost $200 U.S. more than the current 18-55mm bundle).
whostino
2 years ago |wow nex lens in black, will soon also be available in red, white, brown, pink.. seriously sony?!!! rather have the 18-135 for nex!!
Vivek
2 years ago |ADMIN: The big change in the F3 seems to be the acc.port- only for EVF or a mic. No flash. Can you get that confirmed?
Almazar80
2 years ago |Where did you get the idea that external flash will not be supported in the new F3?
Vivek
2 years ago |Read the specs leaked by the Admin.
Maximus
2 years ago |additionally added.
Almazar80
2 years ago |It said you can use trufinder or a microphone. Didn’t day anything about the HVL-F20S or any other external flash. The specs listed seem incomplete and as such I won’t worry about omissions TOO much until Sony makes an official announcement. As an example, the specs say 24p 1080p also 60i. What happened to MP4 output, 720P, 30p etc. As I noted somewhere else in this thread, the listed specs seems like a hodgepodge of things that appealed to to rumorist, so to speak.

2 years ago |And any news on a new 50mm FF prime?

2 years ago |$ony $tyle has crippled F3. I’ll wait for F5. Hope it has touch screen and not the same 180deg kind. I like the old thinner model.
Abu Baqer
2 years ago |So in reality a37 cost merely $300-400 USD. Wonderful, I was thinking to buy this lens but I prefer to wait until Sony come to up-grade this lens to a constant aperture (f/3.5 or f/4) & feature it with SSM @ $800 USD.
It sounds crazy, I think Sony itself going crazy with pricing their lenses. ahhhh.
SonyBoy68
2 years ago |Good news that 18-200 mm OSS will be produce in black !

2 years ago |What most people care the most might be the optical design. whether it’s an updated one or not.
Almazar80
2 years ago |The SEL 18-200mm lens is a good one. It’s quite usable with the NEX-7. It works well (apparently) with the FS700. I like it a lot, even if it’s bulky. I’d rather have more lenses that a new color scheme though.
Yinle
2 years ago |This is what I think also. They should have more kit which starts with 16mm instead of 18mm.
Evjenij
2 years ago |Bad news, the 18-200mm will still look like a long useless sausage stuck on a tiny nex camera, only in black.
Matt

Jesse
2 years ago |So the new Nex 3F is mainly a crippled NEX5 of last year in a different form factor for the same price as a nex5….
Wonder what this means for the refresh of the nex5 well i can guess some features from the nex7 like the sensor but without the evf.
Almazar80
2 years ago |It seems to me that Sony did a great job with the A37. Essentially a stripped down A55 with some features from the A57. Slower FPS for people who don’t need them at $200 less than the A57. Great starter camera, especially if it still has a DOF button. Retains the small size of the A33/35/55 family. If the finder is good, may be an even better backup to current A system cameras than the A57. If the movie mode is well featured, then Sony may finally have a big seller in its hands. We’ll soon see how important 24mp is to the average camera consumer really is. At $100 less than the D3200 (with an 18-55) or $100 more than the D200 (with the 18-135), consumers will have more of an option in the starter camera world. It’s a good time to be buying these type of cameras (especially since they’re all capable of doing great work in the hands of people willing to learn how to use them well).
Steve
2 years ago |..and they did an even better job with the D3200 sensor – check out dpreview’s RAW test shots. Somehow Sony have made the “Nikon” sensor perform better in the D3200 than in the NEX-7.
Almazar80
2 years ago |Like I said, choice is good. People should be happy that there is a wide variety of cameras, at different price levels, with different features, each with a different set of compromises. Anybody should be able to find something they like. It’s too bad people need to bash other peoples’ choices.

2 years ago |This is a rumor website. The specs listed highlight features interesting to the rumor giver. Actual and (full) camera specs are forthcoming. Until Sony makes this official, treat any specs posted as a guideline to what the real specifications will be.
Carl
2 years ago |No shutter speed is listed, therefore it doesn’t have a shutter and you have to cover the lens with a tupperware container lid to make the exposure. True story.
SonyA77
2 years ago |With Sony, anything is possible.
SonyA77
2 years ago |NEX-3 with built-in flash sounds good.
Almazar80
2 years ago |The most inportant thing in this rumor posting to me is how affordable the 18-13mm SAM lens is, especially when bundled with a camera. EIght hundred U.S. for an A37 with the 18-135mm implies that you can buy a nice backup camera for close to $300 if you sell the lens in the bundle.
RandyPD
2 years ago |There seems to be a disconnect with Sony, like the NEx cameras and the Alpha are in totally different departments…the NEX lenses have OS while A-mount lenses don’t. The reason, the say, is that NEX cameras have no sensor IS. BUt then when you use a NEX camera with A mount lenses (using the adapter), then no more IS. This is so stupid. Sensor IS is a big thing for legacy Minolta users having older lenses so they can use with the newer digital bodies but Sony should incorporate OS in their newer A mount lenses. The new 500mm lens is big blunder by Sony for omitting OS.
Almazar80
2 years ago |Did you buy a 500mm f4 to stick to your NEX camera? That would be such an interesting combination. You must be building up your muscles handholding such a beast of a lens.
RandyPD
2 years ago |Actually, I don’t have a NEX camera, I have an A55 and an A77 on the way. I was considering the NEX since its so handy. It would be good to have something that works with the NEX just as well as their native lenses.
Rooru S.
2 years ago |you have a NEX don’t you? If yes, you should realize by it’s size, that with the bigger sensor, bigger output = more heat in a small body, and if NEX without IBIS have been struggling with heat imagine one with IBIS? Result, inoperable camera when used with IBIS. Physics are against you my friend.
Judd Weiss
2 years ago |I spoke with an official in Sony’s digital imaging division and he explained to me that it is impossible to have in body image stabilization with such a small flange distance on the NEX. It would physically require a bigger camera body and a new lens system. I told him this would be a huge hit feature and would be R&D dollars well spent if Sony could figure out a solution. He said he would bring it up at the next meeting. And that’s nice, but the best we can do is hope for the feature to arrive in a few years as the technology develops. We have NO chance of seeing IBIS in an NEX anytime soon.
RandyPD
2 years ago |I don’t have a NEX camera. You don’t have to tell me how IBIS works, thats why NEX has OS in their lenses. My complaint is why didn’t Sony just include OS in their new pro tele lenses? If OS was included, it covers not only NEX users but even Alpha users who shoot video. Although Alpha models after the a55 (which I have) have improved in terms of less overheating while shooting video, IBIS does cause the sensor to run hotter, so OS here would be way preferable. Then comes the price: $12k for a lens without OS. And the major detractors are already saying you can buy a similar Nikon lens AND a D800 for the same price. If Sony could not compete in price, at least compete in features. If you have read the troubles with Sony, its that its different departments are so independent and hard-headed, they won’t even cooperate or collaborate with other departments. The flaw with the 500 4.5 just shows this (price and feature-wise). I think Sony even had a video camera that uses OS and IBIS TOGETHER. SO why can’t they even use this in their Alpha cameras is beyond me.
Faris
2 years ago |Sony finally realized consumers want 5 new (marginally different) cameras for every new lens. Thank you.
Steve
2 years ago |Yes, but the cameras come in colors!
And now, even lenses are coming out in colors like BLACK!
It’s rumored that Sony has problems making enough lenses already so adding black is likely to slow shipments even more.

WTF Sony! C’mon. Another shitty zoom lens. Make finally a bunch of premium prime lenses!
.
Almazar80
2 years ago |How many people here will buy five premium prime lenses for their collection? I want to, but I can’t afford that many. Sony is wise to introduce cameras at pricepoints that will entice new users. Then they can build the infrastructure around that. In reality, though, there are enough nice A mount lenses for most people.
It’s funny how people at SAR LOVE to complain so much about cameras and lenses and such.
pepe
2 years ago |How not to complain about lenses for NEX? Currently there are only two models worth of buying: zeiss 24 f1.8 and sony 50 f1.8. The rest is just worthless crap. My 30 years old canon and nikon manual lenses deliver better quality. These nice little gems of Sony are nothing without good optics.
Almazar80
2 years ago |I beg to differ with your assessment. The 18-200 zoom is a very good lens. The two kit lenses, if used with care, can yield good photographs. The 55-210mm is also quite good. L caliber lenses? No. But more than serviceable. Even on the NEX-7. How do I know? I use them. And Gary Friedman also things the 18-55 is a decent match for the NEX-7 (and also a lot of other people).

2 years ago |Sony 18-200 f-stops:
18mm: f3.5
18-26: f4
27-37: f4.5
38-49: f5
49-134: f5.6
140-200: f6.3
In my opinion a better strategy is to use the LA-EA2 an shoot with a Sigma 17-50 os hsm, and the Sigma 70-200 os hsm+Velbon SPT-1 brace. You get the same range plus image stabilzation, fairly quiet autofocus (though can be loud during video recording), and (most importantly) a constant f3.5 aperture across the zoom range. One has to wonder why the Sigma 120-300 2.8 OS HSM (which can be found in Nikon mount on ebay for $2,399) is not available in Sony Alpha mount. If it were this would be sweet.

2 years ago |Oh man!, this news are worse every day, i hope they are done already with the consumer line. This is the number one problem of Sony with the digital imaging line, they invade the market with more non lasting equipment, The cameras are nice, but lens is what the user really need, how could a new lens color scheme can be announcement.
There enough slow zooms already, we need better optics, The Nex line need at least 2 fast zoom, 3 or 4 primes, as the 50mm f1.8 or the Zeiss 24mm f.1.8.
And the Alpha line need updated and affordable lenses.
The other problem with Sony is they don´t like to upgrade with newer options the current line trough firmware, they have a really capable hardware gripped from factory.

2 years ago |I know we always complain about NEX lenses, but why haven’t the third parties come up with anything? Tamron and Sigma have had the specs for over a year now and so far, they really haven’t made anything special. Tamron just made an 18-200 clone and Sigma has just rehashed some Micro 4/3 lenses.
Joel Richards
2 years ago |I agree, although Sigma’s lenses look like they were designed for NEX (at least the 30mm) primarily as they are sharp across the frame. I’m still surprised and disappointed there isn’t anything else out there from the 3rd parties yet. It seems like there are plenty of e-mount cameras out there. I figure a third of the 5/5N users and virtually all 7 users would invest in a fast, well performing prime for $600 or less. M4/3 group seems to have figured that out.
Maybe a stupid pill comes with the e-mount schematics?

2 years ago |To cripple it of course. Otherwise by why would you buy a 5 series NEX.

2 years ago |So only 24p and 60i in video ? (no 60p ).This is a step backward for Sony, if true as all previous gen NEX and Alfa support AVCHD 2.0 which includes 1080p60.Maybe they want to differentiate lower level cameras from higher level ones (not first time). Once again if this is really true, most video enthusiast will not buy those cameras.

2 years ago |Think they’ll update the 5N before July?
Almazar80
2 years ago |No, the 5n was introduced in the Sep/Oct 2011 timeframe. And really, Sony can rest a little with the camera introductions. The 5n is still a very good camera.

2 years ago |Are they really going to release 4 e-mount lenses in 2012?
Justin
2 years ago |I’m not buying two things specs on the F3. MP4? The photos have AVCHD clearly printed on the camera body. Also, 3FPS… why would they make that substantially worse than its predecessor (C3 5.5fps). Sony can’t be that stupid. I call BS.

2 years ago |You mean stupid like removing flip screens that were on the previous model of dSLR? Or removing GPS from the A57 when the A55 had it? Or removing tethering from the A77 when the A700 had it? I think you get the point….

2 years ago |I think it’s great that Sony has responded with “new” E-mount lenses… 18-200 in BLACK!!!… Wow!!!… that’s new and different…
Can’t you just hear the Sony marketing guys telling the engineers…
“Listen, we need to bring new lenses to market! What can you do”
Engineer says “New lenses won’t be ready until 2013″
“That’s no good! Tell you what… why don’t you make all the existing silver lenses BLACK!!!.. We can release 1 every couple of months… that will keep everyone happy”
“Oh wait… another idea… Make all the black lenses SILVER”…
“Oh boy… we could keep this going all year!!!”
Ah Sony… I love you dearly but you are sorely testing my faith…
I’m staying with my A77+2470Z and NEX-7+24f18Z… That’s it unless they come out with the new 70200G this year…

2 years ago |even Samyang has the specs! wasn’t there a fisheye for nex announced?
i think it would be no prob for Samyang to build and release some fast primes.
