(SR5) Super 35mm sensor, a twin-lens 3D configuration, and the third water/dust-resistant compact camera to be announced on March 23!!!

Hot news dear readers! Sony will unveil three new cameras on March 23!
1) The NXCAM Super 35mm
The NXCAM Super 35mm modular(!) camera shares the same Sony F3 sensor (23.6mm x 13.3mm F11/ISO800 Exmor Super35 CMOS). It will be priced at under $7,000, has a large top-mounted screen/viewfinder, sturdy mike extension that doubles as a carry handle, and a right-side hand-hold grip. It has an E-mount! It will compete against the Panasonic AG-AF100 (Click here ot see the camera and specs at BH). So it sounds like we will get our digital E-mount “Hasselblad”
2) The compact NXCAM
There will be also a compact camcorder (under $3,500) with 96GB of internal memory and water/dust resistant (not waterproof!) body! It looks like the JVC HM100 (Click here to see it on Amazon). It has a fixed lens.
3) The twin-lens NXCAM 3D Camcorder
Priced under $3,500 and it comes with a 3.5” glasses-less 3D screen!
The NAB show takes place in Las Vegas on April 9-14.

There is no confirmation that the NXCAM Compact has a fixed lens. Also, the NXCAM Super 35mm camcorder will be below $6,000 USD (via a public Tweet from Sony).

2 years ago |Will the NXCAM Super 35mm use a FF sensor, like that of the A900?
Mistral75
2 years ago |No. the 3-perf Super 35 motion picture format is 14mm x 24.89mm.
The Sony F3 sensor is actually a bit smaller than that: 13.3mm x 23.6mm. So it is even smaller than APS-C (circa 16mm x 24mm).

Sky_walker
2 years ago |it’s “Super 35mm” because this format used to be recorded on 35mm film.
It doesn’t have anything to deal with 35mm sensor.

2 years ago |isn’t the definition of a FF sensor “35mm” .> It depends on whether we talk cine or still photography: Originally, “35 mm” is the width of the vertical running cinema film, the frame size is 18×24 mm. Thus “35 mm” referes to “18×24″. As Oscar Barnack constructed his Leitz-Camera about 100 years ago, he took the film horizontally and doubled the frame size to 24×36, which spread worldwide afterwards in still photography.

This will be a nice alternative to a 30 grands RED.
Quality wise will not be exactly like the Red since the files will be compressed, but I bet it will be hard to spot the difference most of the times.

2 years ago |Yet, the thing I find so frustrating is that the E-mount space is saturated with still photography old-timers who argue strongly against the inclusion of image stabilization technology (which in this standard must be included inside the lens). They argue, rather impractically and unprovably, that IS degrades still picture quality under ideal circumstances — and of course, ideal circumstances rarely exist anyway.
