Usually you don’t see how a lens is made “inside”. But at CP+ Tamron is showing the new SP 15-30mm lens cut in half. There is also a full review at Photoreview:

Outdoor photographers will welcome the moisture-resistant construction of this lens as well as the fluorine coating on the front element that repels water and dirt and makes it easy to keep clean. Architectural photographers will find relatively low distortion produced by this lens valuable for shooting exteriors and interiors.
In summary: Photographers looking for a fast, wide-angle zoom lens will find this lens represents excellent value for money.

The A-mount lens can be ordered at BHphoto (Click here) and at Adorama (Click here).

Sony says they will update many A-mount lenses. And they know internal 4K recording is highly requested.

The Japanese site Mapcamera interviewed Sony. The interview is in Japanese but our SAR readers Kuonji and Chaika translated some of the key info for us (Thanks!):

1) Currently, Sony has no plan to implement 4K internal recording on the A7s. However they recognize there is a huge request to get this feature in future cameras.
2) Sony is planning for making a new mark II A-mount lenses to replace old popular lenses i.e. 70-300, 24-70, 16-35. More to come in the future
3) Sony is still quite young in terms of mirrorless market, they think of themselves as a challenger, but because they are a challenger, they believe they can do a lot of innovative stuff.

Sony also said they cannot share any details about when the new FE lenses will be released.

Sony says current FE lenses can resolve future 50 Megapixel resolution sensors!

Makoto Kanai from the Sony Lens design department explains the advantages of Sony E-mount (Image by DSLRmagazine).

The Spanish site DSLRmagazine interviewed Akihiro Egawa and Makoto Kanai from Sony. And here are some of the key info:

1) Asked why the new FE lenses are so big the answer was that if you want goo optical quality you cannot reduce the size of the lenses.
2) The interviewer asked if the short flange distance and the limited E-mount diameter is a major limitation for Sony lens designers. The answer was no, for small focal distance lenses this kind of design helps us. The opposite occurs with the classic DSLR mounts. But there is a “But”: Sony said E-mount is maybe challenge when it comes to design longer focal lenses.
3) We only plan to get rid of Anti Aliasing filter on High Resolution Cameras. This because Moirèe tends to become less an issue when the spatial resolution is high.
4) When asked if the current FE lenses can resolve future 50+ Megapixel FF sensor the answer was yes!

Obvisouly…when asked…Sony did not share any information about the new FE lens release or any future possible new FE camera.

(UPDATE) Sigma 150-600mm A-mount lens was never announced (says BH)

Bildschirmfoto 2015-02-12 um 16.18.49

BHphoto marked the 150-600mm Contemporary A-mount lens as discontinued. UPDATE: I now contacted the store and that’s the answer I got:

A Sigma 150-600 for Sony A was never announced, it was skud by accident.

That’s a bit strange because a few days ag the Sigma press release clearly said there is an A-mount version (Source: Sigma). I hope this is just a misunderstanding.

Sony Stand Report by Dpreview: New Zeiss 35mm FE has Direct Drive SSM!

150212cpsony04

Dpreview shared some interetsing info they got from the Sony booth at CP+:

1) Lenses: Still no word on price or availability, but at least Sony now has working models of the lenses, not just the paperweights we saw at CES. We played around with a number of their lenses and, indeed, they appear to be impressive.

2) Stabilization: We got to play around with the unit, moving the sensor up, down, left, right, and rotating it. We found, however, that the sensor did not tilt at all in this assembly, so we asked how the system corrects for pitch and yaw. We were told by the engineers that measurements are continuously recorded and used to algorithmically correct for pitch and yaw.

3) Focus on 35mm Zeiss: The in-body stabilization (IBIS) technology developed by Sony is used not only for IBIS, but also for autofocus motors in the DXC-RX10 and the new FE mount 35mm F1.4 ZA lens being introduced. Direct Drive SSM is based off of technology used for in-body image stabilization. A piezoelectric element that translates an applied electrical field into mechanical movement is used for precise linear positioning of the focus group.

I am really looking forward to see how fast the focus with the new Zeiss FE 35mm f/1.4 is!
