The Franken-NEX-7n :)

The NEX-7n is due for a release (maybe in May?). Meantime SAR reader “lhar Gil” (website: www.clickerbug.com) tried to imagine the NEX-7n Frankencamera and sent me this message with picture: “I personally cannot wait for the nex-7n. aside from the sensor improvements, processing, etc., i am also particularly excited about the physical improvements the 7n will bring to the table namely, new hotshoe, mode dial and wifi..so i decided to do a mashup of the nex-6, nex-7, rx-1 and a99 to create a franken-nex-7n as i would have designed it if i were a sony engineer. what do you think about it? close enough? :)

I will take the chance to remind you some unconfirmed NEX-7n specs. And if some designer has some time to waste why not design and send me the new NEX Full Frame camera too? :)

– New 24 Megapixel APS-C sensor with 1/2 stop improvement and increased dynamic range
– 3, 8 Million dot EVF
– touchscreen
– Hybrid Contrast and Phase Detection AF
– Tri Navi design reviewed
– Focus Peaking will be much improved with choice of colors
– Wifi, but no GPS on board.
– Same size and form factor of the current NEX-7 but with a minor redesign

For Sources: Again, thanks to all sources for helping me out. I may ask them if they can tell me some more bits about the other new stuff like E-mount lenses and other cameras. Thanks :)

NEX-FS700 now shoots 4K with the external HXR-IFR5 unit.

NEX-FS700 Camcorder 4K Update from Sony Professional USA on Vimeo.

That is likely the only bigger A or E-mount related news of the NAB show: The Sony NEX_FS700 E-mount camcorder can shoot 4K with the new external HXRIFR5 unit. Anyway, don’t worry, regular A and E mount rumors are coming soon on SAR and Hasslebald and Zeiss should announce their E-mount stuff soon too!

More info about the 4K news at Blog Sony, Engadget.

New video of the Sony 4K camera (FZ mount, 8 Megapixels, no mirror and coming in 2014).

The video on tops shows you the new 4K Sony prototype. While there are no official specs the camera is “rumored” to have an FZ mount (like the F5 and F55 Cinealta cameras) an 8 Megapixel sensor and definitely no SLT or optical mirror. This is a pure mirrorless camera with Electronic Viewfinder. It’s going to be release sometimes in 2014 and it will compete against the Canon EOS-1D C .

I am not a big fan of videocameras with DSLR shape. Doesn’t really make a lot of sense. I think Blackmagic did a smarter move with the Pocket Cinema Camera ($955 at BHphoto). A compact video only mirrorless camera with CineRAW DNG recording and 220MBs Pro RES. Sony should so a camera like that in E-mount!

More pictures of the new Sony FF SLT (or mirrorless)

The friends over at Engadget (Click here) posted some nice new pictures of the Sony prototype camera and lenses. As you see from the image on top Sony displayed what looks to be a Full Frame DSLR shaped camera. I am not sure this has SLT technology..it may be that this is a pure mirrorless camera with DSLR shape. The camera could be a 4K competitor of the Canon EOS-1D C (here at BHphoto). Engadget reports that “Unfortunately, Sony says that these devices won’t make it to market for quite some time, so photogs will have to make do with this eye candy for now.

So this is not a pure A-mount photographers camera but more of a FZ or PL mount 4K camcorder.
