A talk with Jay Sato from Sony

Jay gives LOTS of detail about recent FX3 firmware upgrades, why shuttle angle and open gate still aren’t there, why Sony Alpha and Cinema cameras are still different. All of the questions that sony users have are asked here! The answers are as open as they can make them – but it’s clear that Sony is listening. And it is NOT clear that the FX3 firmware upgrades will ever make it back to the A7S3… :-(

Thanks “trupledes” ;-)

Quick thoughts on why Sony has to “copy” the Canon 100-300mm f/2.8 lens and my “secret hope” that Sigma will make a 120-300mm lens for a third of the price!

We all know Sony will launch a 300mm f/2.8 GM prime lens by end of 2023 (the lens list listed here at BH). But in my latest video I bring you my case why this new Canon 100-300mm f/2.8 lens makes much more sense than owning a 300mm prime. Yes, the Sony will cost $2-3000 less than the Canon, but the 100-300mm L is much more flexible and can be used for a variety of different scenarios. You might end up saving money because this one lens is good enough to replace a couple of primes and zooms!

So I hope Sony will make such a lens too. But I also have one more deeper secret hope: Sigma doing an E-mount version of their famous 120-300mm f/2.8 lens that still sells for $3,600 only at Amazon. Nearly one third of the price of the Canon!

What do you think, would you buy a Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 FE lens?

Finally! Angelbird’s new 1TB card makes CFexpress Type A cards affordable for the masses!

Finally we can have affordable CFexpress Type A cards! Angelbird just announced the new 1TB card for $499. The card is in Stock on their website but it will soon be available on their Amazon store page too. By comparison the Sony 640Gb card costs $1210 and is a tiny bit slower than the Angelbird. So you see why this news is kind of a big deal:

You pay $1,89 for 1GB with the Sony
You pay $0,5 for 1GB with the Angelbird

That’s 74% less!
