Sony World Photography Award: The world’s best single photographs revealed

Sony announced the best single photos for each category. You can find them all at worldphoto.org.

And SAR follower Josselin Cornou won the French national Award. This is his message to us:

Today the World photo organisation winners have been announced.
I am delighted to learn that I just won the French national Award, becoming French photographer of the year of the 2017 World Photo organisation awards, all categories included!
Being shortlisted TOP 10 photographer for the World photography Awards was already an amazing recognition. Winning the national awards, and being considered as the top#1 French photographer in the biggest photo competition is an other. When submitting this photo, I would have never thought this would be possible. This gives me motivation to master the art of photography even more, and foster the impact I can have with photography.
Like many photographers, I invest a gargantuan amount of time into this passion, trying to express my creativity in a highly competitive space. Creating an aesthetic art piece is one thing, but conveying authentic emotions using landscape photography is another. I am humbled and honored that the judges expressed similar feelings, even being thousands of kilometres away from Antarctica.
I see this recognition as the perfect opportunity for me to inspire people to develop strong environmental awareness in France and around the world. My work is never finished, but winning the World Photo Awards national award is definitely an important step.
Thanks to all of you, my friends, and family that are always here to push me moving forward ! I don’t think this would be possible without you.

Congratulations Josselin!

An interesting choice at Hasselblad: Ming Thein is the new Chief of Strategy

Ming Thein  © Hasselblad

Well that sounds unusual: Hassleblad appointed Ming Thein as new Chief of Strategy. It’s unusual because usually we see “pure” business manager or engineers in that position and not a real skilled and well-known photographer like Ming Thein (althaugh he has some important business experience too). It will be interesting to see if Ming Thein can lead back Hasselblad to past glorious. I think he certainly has the talent to do so. But it will be a difficult work now that Fuji is competing in that segment too.

It would be my dream if Hasselblad and Sony could work together on a 55x41mm large mirrorless medium format system camera. Let’s see if Ming Thein will take note of my wish :)

Sony interview by Imaging Resource re-posted online with important corrections

Over a week ago Imaging Resources interview with Sony created quite a buzz on the web because there was a possible interpretation leading to assume that Sony would not sell their best sensors to other manufacturers. IR now reposted the interview with that important remark:

Tanaka-san was saying that there would be some developments that were co-developed by Sony’s camera division, and that those would of course remain proprietary. It’s important to note that this isn’t in any way a matter of holding back “higher-quality” sensors to disadvantage competitors. If Sony were to somehow dial back specs in the sensors they offer competing camera manufacturers, other sensor makers would rapidly step in to fill that gap.
Instead, Sony’s advantage is that their camera engineers can collaborate directly with their sensor-engineering team, to jointly develop new system architectures that fully leverage their exceptional integration technology.
