Sigma announced the development of the new 16mm f/1.4 lens. Full specs info can be seen here. and this is the press text:

The SIGMA Corporation is pleased to announce the development of a new high-performance, large-diameter wide-angle lens, SIGMA 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary.
This is the world’s first interchangeable lens for mirrorless Sony E-mount cameras in the APS-C format to offer a 24mm focal length (35mm equivalent) and F1.4 brightness. This is the large-diameter wide-angle lens for which mirrorless camera users have been waiting.
With an optical system that rivals that of interchangeable lenses for full-size SLRs, the lens features a wide variety of high-tech optical elements. SIGMA has crafted a lens that leverages optical aberration minimization via the in-camera digital correction. This lens effectively minimizes optical aberrations and offers superb resolution at wide-open aperture and throughout the aperture range. The optical design and stepping motor deliver smooth autofocus during video shooting, while the mount features special sealing creating a dust- and splash-proof design.

This is a new great partner of the existing 30mm f/1.4 E-mount (here on Amazon). I hope the price is about the same too.

Focus Numerique just posted their interview with Sony. Here are some key info:

A-mount future:
Sony said they cannot reveal their future plans but they assured that they will keep develpoing both A-mount cameras and A-mount lenses. There are tworeasons why they will keep A-mount: 1) The Sony translucent mirror allows some unique features and 2) A-mount cameras do allow to use a large set lenses (including older Minolta lenses).

Video in E and A-mount:
E-mount is more suited for video because you can use adapters. A-mount is oriented more towards photographers.

Sony fast release cycle:
Sony says that because they are “challengers” they have to innovate faster tostimulate interest in their products.

Curved sensor:
Sony said they work fine for fixed lens cameras with prime lenses.  It’s complicated with zooms.

APS-C lenses:
Sony made a guarantee that they will develop new APS-C E-mount lenses

Compact FF without EVF:
Sony said they have no plan to launch such a camera yet.

Usually I’d use the A7r2 for landscape shots, but on this trip I figured I might do some street photography, and so I took the A9 instead. Founds some fun abstract shots shooting buildings straight up. With the no-blackout viewfinder, 20fps, and the focus point joystick, I find the A9 to be the best all around Sony camera.

Sony Japan issued a statement for a free repair service on the Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 FE lens. Lenses with the serial number between 1800001 and 1810699 and the lenses with serial number between 8300001 and 8300119 are affected by a fog issue that appears in certain conditions.

The Polish site Optyczne posted the content of an interview with Sony. Here are some key highlights:

Rotating lCD screen on future E-mount cameras:
The A9 does not have the same A99II rotating LCD screen to keep size down. However, Sony said they “understand the needs of consumers and perhaps we will use another mechanism in the future.“

Sony A9 touchscreen:
It would be possible to increase the touchscreen features on the a9 via firmware upgrade. But at the moment this is not a high priority.

Menu redesign:
Sony is listening to users feedback but for the moment you should not expect Sony to release a new menu design

Sony A-mount:
Sony promises to never stop the production of A-mount lenses. At the moment they think the current A-mount line up is well suited for photographers. While Sony’s E-mount lens line up need to be extended

Sony medium format:
We are currently not planing to launch a medium format system camera

Future Sony E-mount lenses:
Sony said “After launching α9, customers expect longer telephoto lenses and we intend to develop our offer step by step. What is not so easy because the user expectations are very high.”

3 layer sensor tech:
At present Sony does not plan to use 3 layer sensor tech in new models of cameras.
