Bad news from Sony: Kumamoto factory damage wil lead to shortage on A7-A7r-A7s-A5100-A77II-A99 cameras

Sony Japan issued an official statement saying. Following the Kumamoto earthquake damage there is a supply issue that will cause a delay on the production of the following cameras:

α7
α7R
α7S
α5100
α77 II
α99

Note that the newer cameras like the second generation A7 camera series and the A63000 are not listed. It’s clear that Sony’s effort is to keep the production alive on their key products.

Adam Sherratt:Myself and a friend are publishing a charity photography calendar, with some of the photos captured on Sony a7rii. We are raising funds for a man who can’t get treatment for a rare form of bladder cancer on the NHS (uk national health service) and so has to pay for it privately. Would be great if you could share a link to see if we can drum up some support. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/landscapes-light-2017-calendar#/

Josselin Cornou: Check out :) That’s what you get shooting with a A7r2 – ISO 6400 and a Zeiss 55mm from an doorless helicopter. What do you think ?

Hasselblad X1D: First Impressions and Interview with Paul Claesson

Hugh Brownstone interviewed Hasselblad manager Paul Claesson. Couple of interesting notes:

1) They managed to “squeeze out” one more stop of the 50MP sensor than the competition (it goes up to ISO 25,600)
2) Hasselblad says they don’t have on sensor image stabilization because it would degrade image quality

Cool: Metabones adds “Native” AF and Smooth Iris to EF Mount Speed Boosters and Smart Adapters by Firmware

metabones

Metabones just released a new firmware update for Canon EF to E-mount Smart adapters and Speed Boosters: “EF-Mount lenses are now capable of focusing quickly across the widest variety of mirrorless cameras with trusted Metabones precision and reliability. The smooth iris feature slows down the movement of the electromagnetic aperture diaphragm so that video footage transitions smoothly when the aperture changes, with reduced tick noise from the lens. The latest Canon and Tamron SP lenses have special support for this feature and Metabones® makes use of it if the lens supports it.
