Lensrentals tested the MTF of the new Sony 135mm GM lens:
These results are insanely good. At 100 lp/mm the Sony 135mm f/1.8 GM has a higher MTF than most excellent primes do at 50 lp / mm. If you don’t speak MTF, basically that means this lens can resolve fine details that would be a blur on excellent lenses. This is the sharpest lens we’ve tested. Period.
And below a new test by Miguel Quiles and an interesting comparison with the Sigma 135mm ART by Manny Ortiz:
Preorders:
Sony 135mm GM at Amazon, BHphoto, Adorama and FocusCamera. EU at ParkCameras, WexUK and Calumet DE.
Sigma 135mm f/1.8 at BHphoto, FocusCamera, Amazon and Adorama.
This is only my speculation but I suspect the Zeiss ZX1 might be the real Sony RX1RII successor. I see no reason why Sony should continue this line of cameras unless they come up with something unexpected (like curved sensor, or medium format sensor).
Apotelyt just posted this size and specs comparison between the RX1RII and ZX1:
Two news to report:
First, DxO is back testing cameras (see press note at the bottom)
Second, they tested the Nikon Z6 sensor and surprise surprise….there is no surprise :) It uses the same A7III sensor and results are very similar. The small differences are due the different processing of the images.
Press:
PARIS – March 8, 2019 – DxOMark is back to testing DSLRs! The Nikon Z 6 review is the first of many sensor reviews planned for 2019. As mirrorless full-frame cameras are on the rise, this segment will be our focus in upcoming sensor publications.
Dpreview posted this quick Sony vs Nikon EyeAF test video:
Both cameras do a good job of recognizing the subject’s eye and sticking with it, even when she covers her face for a period of time. They’re similarly fast to find the eye again, afterward.
Newsshooter shared the first image samples shot with both new Voigtlander FE lenses:

Dpreview shared these images of the new Voigtlander 21mm f/1.4 FE lens mounted on Sony A7rIII:
Optical construction comprises 13 elements in 11 groups, with at least one aspherical element (Cosina is being a little vague, for now, on the exact optical formulation). Like the Nokton 50mm, there are 12 aperture blades, and electrical contacts communicate focal length and aperture to the camera.
The Nokton 21mm F1.4 is a fairly large lens, with a 62mm filter thread. For video use, the aperture dial can be ‘de-clicked’ for smooth stepless control. Minimum focus is 0.25m (about 10 inches).
This is an exciting addition to the FE lens lineup! Fast and compact….perfect for my hiking tours!
