(SR5) Another new Sony sensor: IMX455, a stripped down version of the 60MP IMX551 available off-the-shelf.
So a new sensor (variant) just surfaced, IMX455, a stripped down version of the 60MP IMX551 available off-the-shelf.
Native ISO 64/400

I got some more screenshots unveiling tidbits about the new Sony 60Mp 8K Full Frame sensors:
What’s interesting is that it has 64 native ISO. This is a hell of sensor! But keep in mind that usually cameras do not use the full potential of the sesnor because of processing hardware limits and overheating issues.

SAR note: I keep reading on other news-rumors-blog sites that the new Sony 36MP FF 8K sensor will be used by the Sony A7sIII. I want to repeat it that there is absolutely NO guarantee this is the sensor that will be used by the A7sIII. asll we heard is that this sensor is open to be used by third manufactures too. I find it a bit hard to believe Sony will use the 36MP sensor knowing everybody can use it.
10 days ago I leaked the info about the new 60MP and 36MP with 16bit and 8K recording. Some still didn’t trust my SR5 rumor but today I am happy to share the full spec sheet of the new 36MP sensor. This should convince the hardcore skeptics :)
Enjoy:
Like I told you before: This sensor is meant to be used by third party camera manufacturers too. As usual keep in mind that cameras using that sensor might NOT use the full capabilities of this sensor. The bottleneck is the processor and overall camera design (aka overheating issues). The future A7sIII could sue this sensor (less likely) or a variation of this sensor (more likely).
Also a 54MP FF variation of the 4um architecture used in A6500 is said to be announced in the near future. This is the info I got from a source:
Got word on a new Sony FF sensor, Exmor R, 54MP, 4um photosite, essentially a full frame version of A6500 sensor. Also, Sony Semicon supplied Fujifilm the sensor for X-T3, the latest gen 3.76um photosite architecture seen on IMX411/IMX461 medium format sensors, BSI+copper interconnect+16bit ADC.
We got some interesting rumors from the direct Sony competition:
Panasonic:
Sankei believes Panasonic S1R price is above $4,000+ (MirrorlessRumors). This is considerably more expensive than the A7rIII. Yes, the Panasonic will have 4k60p and probably better weathersealing. But autofocus is unlikely to be as good as the Sony and I doubt at this price many will buy this camera.
Canon:
Canon EOS-R will announce a new High Resolution camera in 2019. Probably with 60+ Megapixels (MirrorlessRumors).
Nikon:
Nikon marketing is working hard to pass the message that their larger mount is better. They now say that “In theory” they could make f/0,65 Z-mount autofocus lenses! (MirrorlessRumors). But of course this is just marketing BS because in reality there will be never such a fast lens. Even their current f/0,95 lens can only be made without autofocus and is extremely big:
I am now curious to see if Sony will “update” their cameras with some of the features you see on the new FF competition: An example could be the addition of th LCD top screen and the larger grip.
In the midst of the big Black Friday event we got some quite major news and some of you might have missed them. So here is the recap:
1) Sony A7000:
Sony officially registered a new E-mount mirrorless camera in Asia. Usually it will take up to 2 months until this camera will be officially announce. I believe this is the new A7000 or A6xxx. A New High End camera:
– it’s not an A6500 successor
– it has a new design with EVF in the center
– it’s a new High End APS-C camera
– mini-A9
– probably 20 fps and 5.6 milion dot EVF
2) Two new Sony Full Frame sensors:
Sony will soon announce two new FF sensors that will be available for third-party companies too. There is a new 8K capable sensor too:
Sensor 1:
60MP
16 channels (which is crazy, normally it should be 8),
4.6FPS@16bit
12FPS@14bit
8k30P@12bit
8K60p@10bit
4k60p@12bit
FHD300P@10bit–Sensor 2:36MP
10FPS@16bit
60FPS@10bit
on-chip PDAF
The development of α7sⅢ has been postponed because of heat issue (SAR note: That’s why it’s not coming in 2018).
α7sⅢ will have stacked CMOS sensor but the sensor is different to α9’s.
α7sⅢ will be sold in 2019’s early.
4) Sony 35mm f/1.8 G
Two sources told us this lens is on Sony’s roadmap. No details about the announcement date but I guess it’s coming in 2019

60MP

4.6FPS@16bit

4k60p@12bit
FHD300P@10bit–Sensor 2:36MP
10FPS@16bit
60FPS@10bit

The source also told me the sensors will have this:
1: Weighted pixel binning: improve the image quality when shooting videos with pixel binning. Already featured in a lot of Sony sensors.2: A new dual-gain ADC mode: improve the dynamic range by almost 2 stops. The sensor loses 50% speed when using it. Details not known yet. Already in XT3’s sensor.3: Digital Overlap HDR (DOL-HDR): It’s like bracketing, but you can shoot 2 frames almost at the same time! (The minimum time interval is only 1/6000 seconds). All the new sensors with 3.76um pixel size have this function.
It is irrelevant if these specific sensors are used or not in the next Sony cameras. The point is the sensors/tech are available, so it is not a stretch to think the next Sony cameras are using something similar.
