Thecoming week for sure Sony will announce new products. Question is,will they announce new camcorders only or will there be also the new High Speed E-mount FF camera?

Latest info I got this morning is:

“I heard the new camera will be announced earlier than 20 April (Not London). After that, the announcement will be expanded to London, and so on.”

So maybe we will get “something” new on April 18-19 already. If not there is still the major Sony NAB announcement on Sunday April 23.

Something very different: That L16 camera could be the first delivering FF Sensor quality on a small compact camera (more at MirrorlessRumors). Wondering if Sony could do something like that one day…

As a reminder: We have three upcoming Sony events where we might see some new Sony products:

1. April 20: Sony will have the Awards ceremony in London on April 20, 2017
   Only once did Sony announce a new camera on that event. It was three years ago for the Sony A77II. So far only one source heard that there might be “something big”. But while the source shared good info in the past that “something big” really doesn’t tell us anything yet.
2. April 23: Sony press conference at 3pm Las Vegas time (Nab show)
   Yes, this is an event were Sony will definitely announce new products. Camcorders for sure. But will there be a new A7sIII? Three years ago Sony did indeed announce the A7s at NAB.
3. June: It’s a classic month for RX and E-mount announcements. The A7rII was announced in June.

Mark those dates and be sure to keep following SAR!

We got word that the new Tamron lens will be “released” by end of April with shipment to start in larger quantity in May. Indeed Amazon updated the 150-600mm lens shipment info to 2-4 weeks. The lens can be preordered at BHphoto too (no shipping date info there).

Two anonymous sources hinted about a possible surprising announcement at NAB: A Sony Drone! UPDATE: Two years ago Sony created a new company just for that. Why does it make sense for Sony to join that market?

1. The DJI Inspire 2 (here on Amazon) uses a Micro Four Thirds mount camera and is the hottest Drone of the moment. this thing sells for over $4,000 and there are is a big accessories market too. Seems like there is money to make here.
2. Last week Canon announced their first Drone too.
3. Engadget just reported that “dollar-for-dollar drone sales in the United States have more than doubled over the past year“.

I can now see the potential for a Sony Drone. But there is also a risk: GoPro failed with their Karma launch and has a huge loss because of that. There is also plenty of good players making drones. So if Sony enters the game they really have to get it right from the start.

Back in October a source told me the FS7II would be announced soon. The rumor was correct. The same source said that there might be a new FS5II at NAB. Well today I got info from another source telling me that this is NOT going to happen.  This means the chances to see a new FS5II at NAB is now much less likely then we thought weeks ago.

Reminder: Sony has a press conference scheduled for April 23 at 3 am Las Vegas time (NAB show start).

We heard of three possible Sony announcements:

1. 60% chance to see a product announcement in London 20 April at the Sony World Photo Awards (Three years ago Sony announced the A77II at the World Photo Award).
2. 100% chance to see new products (likely camcorders) at the Las Vegas 23 April at 2pm at NAB show (Three years ago Sony announced the A7s at the NAB).
3. 70% chance to see new products at the June announcement (Date still to be confirmed).

My guts tell me that June is the more “natural” timing for major FF E-mount announcements unless Sony surprises us on April 20-23. So far we got rumors about:

1. Sony High End and High Speed E-mount camera (Around 20fps and around 20MP, dual SD card slot, joystick, A6500 similar touchscreen/menu/autofocus)
2. New camcorders (maybe new E-mount camcorder too?)
3. New 16-35mm f/2.8 GM
4. New 100-400mm FE GM
5. RX1rIII (42MP sensor, IBIS, same 3.68MP Leica Q EVF and 4K video)

We know Sony sometimes makes a big press event for literally nothing. So be prepared to be disappointed or to be surprised :)

Four years ago a source named “”Y… u… s…”” shared to me the correct QX, RX100II info and the first A7 and A7r hints. Well after four years that source just sent me a message right now to tell me this:

I heard there is a very important announcement around April 20 at London”

So maybe we will get two announcements within 3 days? An E-mount Camera in London (Sony World Photo Award event) and a Camcorder focused release event on April 23 in Las Vegas (NAB).
