Sigma debunks the rumor suggesting they are quitting A-mount production

150mm

A rumor on Diyphotography hinted about the possibility that Sigma may quit their A-mount lens production:

“According to our source, Sony makes a fraction of the business for Sigma. They also note that Sigma wants more focus in their factories on their cine line, and resources are shifting.”

But asked by Photoscala Sigma Germany stated that the “suggestion” about them stopping their A-mount lens production as a whole are untrue and they will keep making A-mount lenses. The only thing they did is stop producing a few older A-mount lenses:

105mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro
70-200mm f/2.8 APO EX DG HSM OS FLD
150mm F2.8 APO EX DG OS HSM Macro
12-24mm f/4.5–5.6 AF II DG HSM

Sigma also said that while it’s true that demand on A-mount lenses decreased the past years there could be also a return of interest thanks to the new A99II.

To paraphrase Mark Twain: The reports of A-mount being death are greatly exaggerated …. :)

(SR5) Correction on the Sony announcement time (not this week but in 2-3 weeks)

a-mount

Important rumor correction: The next Sony announcement will not take place this week but in 2-3 weeks (UPDATE: between mid October and early November is the new info). Thanks to the feedback of various sources we learned there was an internal miscomunication at Sony (Thanks the two sources pointing out this). Sorry to say you have to wait a tiny bit more!

I can also confirm this is not an announcement about a new A7 camera. If you are waiting for a new A7markIII you will have to wait til 2017.

Just a curiosity: Seems like Sony lately is in for at least one announcement per month: 50mm Zeiss FE in July, 50mm macro in August, A99II and 18-100mm in September and A6500 in October…

(SR3) There is a likely a delay on the next Zeiss Batis announcement

bildschirmfoto-2016-10-18-um-09-37-55

We always got reliable rumors about the Loxia and Batis lens specs and launch date. But it looks like Zeiss delayed the next upcoming Batis lens launch. Sources didn’t tell us the reason. We can only speculate: Easiest guess is that Zeiss wants to use production resources for the already available lenses first. Also note that the new Loxia announced in September is set to ship in late December only.

Next Tamron 60mm f/2.8 FE lens patent

bildschirmfoto-2016-10-17-um-13-22-23

Tamron keeps patenting designs for Full Frame mirrorless system cameras (aka Sony FE). Egami spotted a new 60mm f/2.8 FE lens design patent. The recent months Tamron published five FE lens designs:
28mm f/2.8
28-70mm f/3.5-5.6
28-320mm f/3.5-6.3
50mm f/2.8
60mm f/2.8

It’s not clear if Tamron planes to introduce these lenses with their own name or if they will sell the design to Sony or Zeiss.

Sony CEO has a Keynote today at 11:30 Berlin time (no product launch)

kazuo-hirai

Kazuo Hirai, president and CEO of Sony Corporation, will deliver the Media Mastermind Keynote at MIPCOM, on Monday October 17, in the Grand Auditorium at 11.30am. It’s not about a new product launch!

Reminder: This week Sony will have an announcement. But I am almost sure now it’s nto abotu a new A7 or A9 camera but rather about something else E-mount (camcorder?).

bildschirmfoto-2016-10-17-um-11-25-12

(SR3) Is Sony going to announce a new E-mount camcorder in 2-3 weeks?

UPDATE: The announcement will take place in 2-3 weeks and not this week as reported earlier.
I don’t think we are going to see a new A7 or A9 camera. There are many hints that this might be for “something different”. This is one the of thints I received. A source contaced a close Sony friend:

I told him I have feeling it’s not going to be lenses or a series cameras but it’s going to be Fs camcorder like fs7ii or fs5ii. And he said I am very close. So based on him it’s going to be Camcorder

On of our trusted sources said this announcement is about E-mount. Speculation: Could this be a new FF E-mount camcorder? A sort of A7sII on steroids? :)
