Sony Lens Designer Motoyuki Ohtake says: “We’ll make more lenses. Please wait for a while”.

Sony Lens Designer Motoyuki Ohtake made this presentation in Malaysia where he explained the design of the new Alpha Lenses (like the Zeiss 50mm). He also told us “We’ll make more lenses. Please wait for a while” :)

If you watch the video at Minute 31:30 he gets asked about the future Sony G zoom for NEX. The answer is… :)

Personal Note: I like the honest and spontaneous being of Motoyuki Ohtake a lot! He is definitely not a marketing guy spreading void slogans. I want to see him more in future :)

UPDATE on Zeiss: Damn, Zeiss delayed the 50mm lens release and it is shipping in July only at Amazon (Click here), Adorama (Click here), BHphoto (Click here) and SonyStore USA (via AlphaCameraDeals). In Europe at Wex UK and Amazon DE.

(SR3) NEX-7n now scheduled for a May release? With two layer OLED EVF!

It seems like we can hope again! A good source told me that Sony is close to schedule the announcement of the NEX-7n for May (yep it’s still not 100% sure). He also explained me how the new 3.8 Million dot EVF works. And it’s a smart idea:

There are actually two OLED layers of 1.9 Million dot each. They are displace by 1 pixel and the EVF image projection works asynchronously. That allows to create supersharp images with no lag and other artifacts.

Let’s hope this time they will not delay the announcement!

The current NEX-7 is discounted in US and Europe: Search check links at [shopcountry 8454].

Sony patent discloses the new 35mm f/1.8 for Full Frame mirrorless with curved sensor!

Egami spotted the next patent showing a Full Frame lens for the mirrorless NEX or the fixed lens RX system. It is a 35mm f/1.8 lens that has one big characteristic…it has been designed to be ultra compact! A perfect street photography lens! I want that :)

And there is one more particular thing to see on that patent: The lens has been designed for a curved sensor! The main advantage is that the sharpness through the full frame is increased.

via PR.

Surprise: Sony shows the new Full Frame with built-in vertical grip!

During the Sony presentation in LAS Vegas Sony underlined their commitment in the digital camera industry by showing shortly some prototype lenses and cameras. The screenshot I posted here on top looks to be a Full frame camera with built-in vertical grip. As SAR reader “Tonis” suggested the mount could be a sort of universal mount like the one used by the Sony F55. Just look at the mount the Zeiss 24-70mm A mount lens has an adapter which is likely an A to E-mount or FZ or PL mount adapter! That camera seems to be scheduled for a 2014 release. With new sensor tech (and likely 4k video recording).

Help from NAB show visitors: If some of you is in Las Vegas, can you send us please some pics of the prototype camera and lenses? Thanks a lot!

P.S.: I am happy Sony finally showed us that new Full Frame prototype. I may will help to shut down the voice of the few pessimistic people spamming on SAR comment system ;)

(SR3) Sales figures numbers of the A99…

I don’t know if the info I got here is correct but an anonymous source sent me the sales figures for the A99:

Sales figures for a99:
-europe with russia 12773 /10.jan 2013  – 10.mar 2013/
-usa 16071 /same period/
-asia /39407 /same period
-rest of the world 5269 /same period/

I can’t evaluate if those numbers are actually a good or a bad sign. Anyway, at leats in US SOny launched a new action to push A99 sales. You get a free vertical grip and free flash with the camera purchase at Amazon too (Click here) and at Samys (Click here). The body only sells for less than $2600 at [shoplink 17727 ebay]BigValue (Click here)[/shoplink].

(SR4) It is the Sony CEO in person that forced the roadmap change. NEX-7n coming for sure in a couple of months.

I have been told that the new Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai in person pushed to change the E and A mount roadmap. As you know most of the cameras due for a 2013 release like the cheap FF-SLT and so on have been dropped from the roadmap to focus on a more “innovative” 2014 release. As I told you both the A and E-mount development will continue.

A couple of trusted sources confirmed the next camera to come is likely to be the NEX-7 successor. It is coming within a couple of months.

Personal note on the roadmap: Sony is still discussing with the partners like Hasselblad and Zeiss the future 4 years strategy. I will keep you updated as soon as something 99% definitive has been decided.
