Good news! New A77 firmware coming soon (From Asia: coming tomorrow???)

C. Garrarad had a small talk with Sony and wrote on Alphamountworld: “it is confirmed that they are working on a new firmware update for the new cameras announced with the 24mp sensor. We didn’t get into specifics but there will DEFINITELY be a new firmware version for them to address issues.“.

And if we are really “lucky” than the new firmware (version 1.03) should be out…TOMORROW! This according to a source of mobile01.

The new firmware will hopefully fix all issues we talked about in these days. As you know the problems was that the 1.02 firmware wasn’t updated for the new BIONZ processor which is used for the production camera. The pre production camera had a slightly different processor.

UPDATE: Camera RAW and Lightroom 6.5 now support the A77!!! More at http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/

(SR2) Surprise! Will there be a Sony A75 soon???

What the hell is that? Another APS-C model called A75? That leak is coming directly via Sony websites. See here: http://www.sony.net/Products/Linux/DI/SLT-A75.html. Could it be a typo? Hm, if it would be in text my answer would be maybe yes. But fact is that also the URL contains the same name! I hope to get more news via my trusted sources very soon! Stay tuned!

P.S.: Imagine the A75 having the [shoplink 8461]Sony A77[/shoplink] body and [shoplink 8452]Sony NEX-5n[/shoplink] sensor. That would be something cool or not?

Reminder (SR = Sonyrumor):
SR1=probably fake rumor
SR2=rumor from unknown sources
SR3=50% chance it is correct
SR4=rumor from known sources (60-80% the rumor is correct)
SR5=almost certainly correct!

(SR4) New Noktor HyperPrime 23mm f/1.7 lens coming soon?

On top: The very first picture(?) taken with the (preproduction) Noktor HyperPrime 23mm f/1.7 for NEX (Click on picture to enlarge).

We have been just told by our sources that there will be a new E-mount Noktor 23mm f/1.7 lens coming soon. The design is based on cinema lens, that means it has  a 12 aperture blades that will make a perfectly round aperture opening. The lens will be available in December for around $499. It has a minimum focus distance of 10cm.

The lens is made by the Chinese company SLRmagic which already makes the [shoplink 7109 ebay]35mm f/1.7 for NEX (available on eBay)[/shoplink].

C.Garrard: Sony is aware that we need pancakes for the NEX system.

The latest Sony ENX lens roadmap shows the three upcoming new lenses, the G standard zoom, the die angle zoom and mid telephoto lens. Those are lenses that will appeal consumers more than enthusiast or professionists. But I am still hoping Sony will also announce some fast lens and panckes as soon as possible. Carl Garrard has a small talk with Sony and told them: “I let Sony know there is a big desire for smaller lenses for the NEX system, and in the end of that conversation I came to the conclusion that it’s not like they aren’t aware of this desire/need. I was told that their lens engineers are at full throttle trying to keep up with designing lenses for both the Alpha and NEX systems. “That’s fine” I said, “But the consumer wants smaller lenses now- maybe Sony ought to think about prioritizing that demand” I added.” (Source: Dpreview forum).

Now let’s hope Sony will respond my (and your) call for pancakes!

(SR5) New Samyang 8mm (f/2.8?) fisheye coming soon.

[shoplink 6779 ebay][/shoplink]

The image on top shows you the current bulky [shoplink 6779 ebay]8mm fisheye lens[/shoplink] from Samyang which has been optimized for the use on the [shoplink 3058]VG-10. But we have been just told by our soruces that a new version is going to be announced soon. It will be far more compact than current fisheye lens. The design will be  slightly different than the just announced [shoplink 8975 ebay]Micro Four Thirds 7.5mm[/shoplink] pancake fisheye but the size and FOV will be similar! And that’s good news because as you can see here the lens is extremly tiny! Nice!

On eBay you can find the two mentioned fisheyes:
The [shoplink 6779]8mm for the VG-10[/shoplink]
The [shoplink 8975]7.5mm for m43[/shoplink]

(SR5) A Fullframe rumors summary.

Paul Genge from Sony UK said at British Journal of Photography that the firm has still to make a decision on whether it will use its Translucent Mirror Technology in the upcoming models. And he said that a new Alpha full-frame camera would replace the A850 and A900 released in 2008.

That is more or less all what Sony had to say about their future Fullframe plans. What do I know more in terms of fullframe rumors?

1) The roadmap for FF lenses and camers has been shifted forward for a couple of months. Like it was for the A77 everything has been delayed. I will give you more info about the new Fulflrame lenses soon.
2) There will be more than one (probably three!) new fullframe cameras in 2012
3) Not a single one of those will have a classic DSLR design (no classic mirror, no prisma)
4) The A99 (one of the three cameras) should be unveiled before the Photokina 2012 show in September (I am not sure yet when Sony will announced about other one-two fullframe cameras)
5) Sony developed a new 36Megapixel fullframe sensor which will probably fit inside the A99.

Of course I received more details, but I need to double and triple check them with other sources. I ask my sources if they cans hare me some bits about the future Sony FF roadmap. As you know you can use the anonymous contact form on the right sidebar or write me at sonyalpharumors@gmail.com. Thanks!

What I can also say is that my trusted sources are sure the new FF cameras will shake the world. And I am sure they mean it very honestly!

See you soon!
Andrea

A NEX-7 close look. Why is it the most preordered camera?

The sexy EVF corner of the NEX-7 (Click here to preorder).

Let’s start from a fact. The NEX-7 gets more preorders than the A77 at Amazon (Click here to see the rankings…with both NEX-7 preorder options inside the top 20!). There was not one single day the A77 was preordered more than the NEX-7! The curious thing about that is: Sony definitely focused their marketing campaign mainly on the A77. De facto there are plenty of A77 previews and image samples around the web. You can find RAW image samples, youtube videos, previews and even first full ISO tests and reviews! On the opposite there are absolutely ZERO reviews, image samples or NEX-7 video samples about the NEX-7. And it’s a bit surprising that most of the photo websites are really enthusiast about the NEX-7 (without having it even fully tested it!):

Imaging Resource (Click here) wrote about the NEX-7: “We obviously can’t conclude a whole lot from a camera that we’ve only seen in barely-functional prototype form, but what we’ve seen looks tremendously impressive. We do have a good idea of what the NEX-7’s image quality will be like,d though, because it uses the same 24.3 megapixel sensor and advanced Bionz processor that we’ve already shot a fair number of test images with in the A77. Sony claims that the A77’s image quality “approaches that of full-frame cameras”, and we found that indeed to be the case when we compared image samples against those from [shoplink 3032 ebay]Sony’s earlier A900 full-frame SLR[/shoplink]. That same level of imaging prowess in the NEX-7’s super-compact body can’t help but be a huge hit.

ePhotozine (Click here) said: “The NEX-7 is an exciting product that gives manual controls, dials, and buttons, on the camera. These are physical, real buttons, that you can press and feel. Even more than this they are customisable to give you the control you want. Without doubt this is the highest specification mirrorless camera available yet.“.

I summed up some of the key features the reviewer liked. And here is the question for you (you can select more answers!):

You hope to get the new...
