First wild Sony A7sIV rumors: It will have the highest dynamic range on any alpha camera?

Note: This is a WILD rumor about the A7sIV that I got from a new source. Trusted sources have NOT told me yet if the A7sIV will be coming in 2023. So for the sake of clickbait, sorry “rationale discussion” let me know if you would be happy if that rumor would turn out to be true:

  • A7sIV will be announced in Q3/Q4 2023
  • 6k sensor that offers raw video and oversampled 4k video with no crops
  • The highest dynamic range ever on any alpha camera

If the rumor is correct (big if!) the surprise here is that the A7sIV would not record 8K. Of course, being this aimed at professionals we have to admit that 8K isn’t yet mainstream anyway. So it might be a wise choice from Sony to focus on delivering the best 4k quality possible.

WILD RUMOR: New Sony A1 firmware is being tested by the Chinese Independent Cinematographers Association?

A chinese Weibo account claims the new Sony A1 firmware is being tested by the Chinese Independent Cinematographers Association:

Recently, some photographers have upgraded to the latest firmware for the α1, which improves usability and AF performance, and carries over some of the features of the α7R V, such as subject recognition.

No idea if this is true. All we know for sure is that Sony said the A7IV and Z1F would get a firmware update in Spring to make them compatible with the new creators app. Here is my summary of all firmware update rumors:

Sony now has THREE registered cameras in China! All will be announced within the next few months!

A Chinese user on Weibo spotted the next Sony camera registration. We now have THREE codes of yet NOT announced Sony cameras:

  • WW542541 2.4GHz/5.1GHz
  • WW198387 2.4GHz
  • WW694956 2.4GHz/5.1GHz (which I suppose to be the new ZV FF E-mount camera)

One of them for sure is the ZV Full Frame E-mount camera which is coming in late March. The other one should be some sort of entry level camera while the third one looks like it may be a nice surprise! ! More about that soon on SAR and on my Youtube channel ;)

UPDATE on the A7IV firmware

The one source that told me the A7IV firmware would be coming by end of February contacted me again. He said he got the info straight at the Sony event. So probably Sony made mistake with the timeframe. But it is definitely coming. And it’s also confirmed via the official Sony’s press release for the Creative Cloud app launch:

Creators’ App will be compatible with Alpha 7 IV, ZV-1F. Spring 2023: FX3, FX30. Alpha7 IV, Alpha 7R V, FX3, FX30 will need software update.

So the A7IV and ZV-1F will get an update soon for sure.

RUMOR: Laowa will release a 28mm f/1.2 FE lens in March?

One source claims that Laowa will announce a new 28mm f/1.2 FE lens in March. It would become the widest and fastest Full Frame E-mount lens on the market. Sigma is the current king with their 35mm f/1.2 FE lens.

Specs summary:

  • Laowa 28mm f/1.2
  • Full Frame E-mount
  • manual focus
  • $599
  • 600g
  • good sharpness even at f/1.2
  • High CA wide open

Thanks to the source! Hope you can share the images soon ;)

Coming today: New rumors with one major correction(!) about the soon to be announced new Sony ZV Full Frame camera

The new Sony 50mm F/1.4 GM is certainly a nice addition but it’s really new cameras that we really need. And like I told you before THREE camera might be announced between March and early Summer. I can also confirm you that one of the other two cameras is pretty exciting!

But today at 14:00 London time I will share NEW info about this new ZV FF model on my Youtube channel (Click here to subscribe it). If we get past 10k subscribers I promise I will get a proper haircut ok? Or maybe I have to get the haircut to make it to 10k :)
