Today Sony announced the new WX800 compact camera

Share

The X800 (in Europe) or HX99 (in the USA) can be preorder at BHphoto, BuyDig, Focuscamera

So the rumor was spot on and indeed we had a new Sony announcement today: The bad news is that there is no A7000 yet. But “only” this new WX800 compact camera (In China it’s named WX700 and in US HX99). Like I told you multiple times before I am sure the A7000 rumor is correct but I also told you that we never got an exact date about the possible camera announcement. All we know is that they told us it’s coming as next E-mount camera.

Back to the WX800:
The new WX800 is the world’s smallest compact camera with 24-720mm zoom. Full info can be read on that Sony site. And this is the incredible zoom range you get with this camera:

Dead end: Meyer Optik Goerlitz will not ship your Kickstarter preorder and you will not get your money back

Share

Damn, this could be a bad day for some of our readers:

The German website Photoscala reported that the company Net SE is now officially bankrupt. They had many Kickstarter projects running under the brands Meyer Optik Görlitz, C. P. Goerz und Oprema Jena. And if you still didn’t get your lens from them you will NOT get back the money from Kickstarter!

If you still want to get such a lens there are some of them in Stock at Bhphoto. Unlike Kickstarter you will get a refund at Bhphoto if the lens you had on preorder will not ship.

Ray Larose hands-on test of the new Zeiss ZX1

Share

Ray Larose is one of the very few people who had the chance to shoot with the new Zeiss ZX1 (specs here).

Holding it in the hand is like nothing else. When I first grabbed it, it reminded me (slightly) of the X1D and much nicer than the Sony RX1R II I had.

The rear screen is incredible. A bright (even in bright sunlight) 4.3” OLED touchscreen with intuitive menus. Being able to take a shot, swipe of a thumb to add my own custom preset in Lightroom CC, then exporting it to social media – with nothing more than a click – was an amazing and exciting experience. And having all this stored on an internal 512 GB SSD drive – just wow.

The slight curve to the body is a dream and fits the hand really well. Raw photos are a dream (even in beta) – a feel that’s really approaching medium format for me.

I feel this one has a touch more character than the RX1R II version. I see it have a smoother bokeh and a nice edge to edge sharpness. As you know, the RX1R II has slight distortion in the edges, something I didn’t see on the ZX1.

Ray cannot dislcose more yet but I can’t wait to see some real work shot with it.

Still no 100% confirmation about a possible product announcement coming any time soon…

Share

While I am confident the High End APS-C camera rumor is correct I still got no reliable confirmation about the possible announcement day. All I know is that this is the next camera Sony is likely to announce.

I only got anonymous tips and that means there is a statistically very high chance they are wrong. I am only posting them for your pleasure :)

Source 1.

Tomorrow (October 16th), Sony announces the FE 200-600mm f/5-6.3 G lens. Relatively light, priced 1499$. Note that it belongs in the G series, not GM. Sony also announces the development of 500mm f/4 and 600mm f/4 lenses. No other announcements for now.

Source 2:

New sony aps-c in the next few days:
– new pregius CMOS sensor
– new design with middle EVF
– 10bit 4k 30fps
– 8bit 4k 60fps
– internal ND filter

I ask people who are “serious” sources to please use some kind of nickname so that I can recognize them when they send me future rumors and I can ranke them properly. Thanks!
