Two new A7rII vs GFX tests (close battle)

Share

Two reviewers compared the new Fuji GFX medium format camera with the Sony A7rII. Those are their conclusions:

DearSusans writes:

My conclusions are that the GFX feels a tiny bit less electronic at 100% and colours seem a bit better. On the other hand the A7RII seems a little sharper. But the real conclusion is that, in terms of IQ, both are so close as to make no significant difference, other than colourwise. So, coming from a Sony A7rII corner, it’s hard to see anything compelling enough to make a switch. Moving up from a different system, your mileage may vary.

Jim Kassons concludes

The Fuji is markedly sharper except at the very corners, where the Sony comes close. I messed around with sharpening on the Sony images, and I couldn’t get them to look anything like the Fuji ones, except is the cases where they were very close to begin with.

Quite two different conclusions :)

D’ho! Fuji just issued a statement because their new 18-5mm E-mount Cine Lens has an issue. The iris blades do not move correctly:

Notification regarding iris blades on the MK18-55mm T2.9

Dear Valued customers
Thank you for using Fujifilm products.
We have received feedback from a few customers that the iris blades did not move correctly when the iris ring was rotated.

As a result of our internal investigation, we found the potential risk that the MK18-55mm lens produced in a partial production lot, in rare cases, would cause the above problem.

Therefore, our technical staff will inspect your MK18-55mm lens with the following mentioned serial numbers free of charge. For more information, please contact your shop or dealer where you purchased the MK18-55mm lens to make arrangements to have your MK18-55mm lens sent for inspection.
We do apologize to any of our loyal customers that may be affected by this inconvenience. Please rest assured of Fujifilm’s absolute commitment to quality and service excellence.

Serial number :
From 75A00001 to 75A00354

Sony World Photography Award: The world’s best single photographs revealed

Share

Sony announced the best single photos for each category. You can find them all at worldphoto.org.

And SAR follower Josselin Cornou won the French national Award. This is his message to us:

Today the World photo organisation winners have been announced.
I am delighted to learn that I just won the French national Award, becoming French photographer of the year of the 2017 World Photo organisation awards, all categories included!
Being shortlisted TOP 10 photographer for the World photography Awards was already an amazing recognition. Winning the national awards, and being considered as the top#1 French photographer in the biggest photo competition is an other. When submitting this photo, I would have never thought this would be possible. This gives me motivation to master the art of photography even more, and foster the impact I can have with photography.
Like many photographers, I invest a gargantuan amount of time into this passion, trying to express my creativity in a highly competitive space. Creating an aesthetic art piece is one thing, but conveying authentic emotions using landscape photography is another. I am humbled and honored that the judges expressed similar feelings, even being thousands of kilometres away from Antarctica.
I see this recognition as the perfect opportunity for me to inspire people to develop strong environmental awareness in France and around the world. My work is never finished, but winning the World Photo Awards national award is definitely an important step.
Thanks to all of you, my friends, and family that are always here to push me moving forward ! I don’t think this would be possible without you.

Congratulations Josselin!
