The Japanese-German partners Kipon and IBE today announced the development of the world first medium format to Sony E-mount lens reducer adapter! The Baveyes HB-S 0.7x “Speed Booster” will be offered for [shoplink 43141 ebay]Hasselblad C-F-CF lens series[/shoplink] owners. They can use those lenses with the “native” focal length and 1 stop aperture gain on Sony Full Frame E-mount cameras. Kipon did yet no share any info about the pricing of the lens and the possible shipment start.

It’s not an Alpha news but I know quite some SAR readers are a fan of action cameras. So I thought I will share you this one. A trusted source sent me the first picture of a new Sony Action Camera that will be announced on January 5th. The same source has yet not heard any specs of the camera.
I hope to get some pics of the possible new Sony A99 successor too…

We are talking about non Alpha stuff so let me add some more info: There will be new Xperia phones from Sony. But the future of photography may be this: Samsung interchangeable lens smartphones (on Mirrorlessrumors.com).

We are Modula Optical, a small group of engineers in the optical industry, and we have developed a really unique 33mm f/2 prime lens for mirrorless cameras (Fujifilm X, Sony E, and Canon M) called the CM33. We love the compactness of mirrorless cameras, so we wanted to create a nice flexible pancake style lens where we push the optical quality absolutely as far as it can go using the design techniques we’ve learned over the years in other industries. And we also wanted to bring to modern cameras some of the really wonderful feel and usability of the classic manual focus lenses we grew up.

The other cool thing about the CM33 is a range of modular upgrade options. The most unique option is what we call “Mods” — special optical elements (filters, lenses, etc.) that can be inserted into the middle of the lens near the aperture stop, rather than screwed on the front ring. This lets us create some really interesting optical effects in a completely “as needed” way, rather than requiring a specialized lens to, for example, get a bokeh apodization effect or well-controlled soft focus effect.

DxOmark (Click here) tested the new Sony A7sII. Unsurprisingly the performance of the new camera matches the previous model. But there are small changes and the A7sII has a negligible 2 points lower score:

Although the DxOMark score is slightly below the earlier A7S, the difference is pretty much negligible. The A7S II is slightly behind in color sensitivity, equating to just 0.3 bits color depth, which isn’t really perceivable in use. As for dynamic range, the new model is practically identical to its predecessor — and not just at base, but more or less throughout the ISO range. However there has been an improvement or refinement perhaps, between ISO3200 and 12800

Conclusion

Like its predecessor, the sensor in A7S II has impressive low-light performance — in fact, very impressive high ISO dynamic range, particularly between ISO3200 and 12800. But it comes at the expense of pixel count and the dynamics are not much of an improvement over the A7S, which (along with the $2999 price tag) we suspect will continue to limit the appeal to still photographers. As a camera intended primarily for videographers, however, that may not be much of an issue. Anyone that has invested in the A7 or A7R variants looking for a complementary video-centric model need look no further than the A7S II.

Of course what makes the A7sII standout compared to the predecessor is the 4K internal recording and the 5 axis stabilization. It’s a camera mainly made for film makers.

(SR3) The new High End camera is the A99 replacement ?

Sony has tight lips when it comes to future products. But the wall of silence is slowly breaking and step after step I am getting much closer to get info about the January-February Sony announcements!

In November a highly trusted source said two things: The A6xxx will ship in early 2016. And he also said a “high end camera” is likely to ship too. Well, now I think the High End camera is the A99 replacement!

I just got the following two rumors and one of them comes via a Highly Trusted Source:

    1. Source One (This is the same source who shared as first the very exact Batis lens specs many months before the lens announcement!)
      He wrote to me “Big announcement coming on January 5th. Potentially for Alpha. I think A99 replacement.“
    2. Source Two (First time he sends a rumor but I know from a while him and I do trust him)
      He wrote to me :”I heard from XXX that Sony will have a A99II!“

I have yet no info or specs about that camera. But stay tuned on SAR for eventual surprises! Also, please keep in mind that the trusted source may be right about the A99 replacement but it’s not sure if it’s coming at CES or CP+….

Dpreview hands-on with the massive Mitakon 135mm f/1.4 E-mount lens!

The Mitakon 135mm f/1.4 FE lens is one of the kind of lenses you want to absolutely hold in your hands at least one time! And Dpreview had the lucky chance to test one:

The 135mm F1.4 is a massive piece of glass, and in its E-mount flavor, absolutely dwarfs Sony’s a7 bodies. With a 105mm thread, fully manual operation and a weight of over six pounds (about 2.7kg), it can be rather intimidating, and is near impossible to use hand-held. With the proper support in place though it isn’t difficult to use at all, and can reward patient use with dramatic, unique results.When viewing our samples, it’s worth bearing a couple of things in mind. Firstly, this lens is one-of-a-kind. Almost literally. So it has no direct competitors that we can shoot alongside. Also note what we said earlier – we were using an engineering prototype that was not cosmetically final, and may not be completely representative, optically, of the finished shipping lenses when they become available (although it’s likely to at least be extremely close).
